Nah.
I have seen too many Teslas standing on the side of the road here in Europe waiting for the tow truck.

In addition, buying an electric car is much more polluting than continuing to drive my present one with a combustion engine.
Better not to drive a car at all if you don't have to.

Teslas are awesome, but mighty expensive and apparently unreliable..

For Porsche you'd need to be a millionaire..

So is it Kia, Hyundai, Audi, BMW, Skoda, VW?
(Based Only on looks and price I'd get a KIA EV6..
but yeah autonomy, reliability/durability, warranty conditions are important factors..)

Also in the case of a power shortage, or massive Cataclysm,
a fully electric car would be useless..

So it would be good to have an hybrid with a small gas engine, if that's still a thing.
No Hydrogen tho, that's for sure..

I tend to think I am rather environmentally conscious, I use enough energy at home and dont need to contribute to even more coal emissions to charge cars over night

I’m at a point where I need a new car, and definitely thinking ev because I can basically get for free if I buy it through my company (I’m limited as a consultant), but charging is a pain at home as don’t have a drive, but have a fast charger near office, so a bit tied as to what to do. I think the tech is possibly a generation lower than where it needs to be to be properly viable.

 

There is only one electric car I would buy as of this moment. It just isn't practical though.

I know what you mean, I sold mine as the roads are too uneven where I live and the ground clearance is very low!

Already have Hybrid Plugin car that I can run 60 km on one charge.. bought one second hand.
I dont need to fill the tank ever! Can go 50 km to work and then charge the battery at work as well.

Works really good and I can run it at 1/8th of the cost of gasoline!!!... I go about 100 km a day... and I save a lot of money on doing this.

Also, running electric cars are more fun. Acceleration is great... and silent! (just as I like my DAW)

If you live in Norway or any other country that has charging stations for electric cars... there's no reason not to get one. Its a lot cheaper than buying a new gasoline car.... but if you have an old car, just use that for some years.. better for the environment.

At 2030 pretty much all gasoline cars will be banned in northern europe.. if you live here, use your old car for some years or sell it now and get an electric one. The gasoline cars wont be worth anything in 2030....

Beside I'm running in space with a Tesla, I'm fed up with this green mania.

First off, if you want change to electrical cars, they have to stop designing huge overpriced SUV with 500+ hp, that is not energy save, just marketing show-off.
Max Limit to 80 hp (do engineers know that energy is energy and higher power requires higher amount of energy? For sure not customers, hey, it's green, it's good).
Offer real competitive prices. At the moment, electrical cars are to be considered luxury items TO ADD to traditional fuel engine.

Second, electrical power costs, and you need a lot of it, and you need to produce it, and today we still don't have a sufficient clean production.

Third, batteries. They last few years, after must be replaced, is it cost effective and sustainable?
Me guess not, even after reading of recycling, blabla... hope I'm wrong.
Electric cars: What will happen to all the dead batteries?

Fourth, let's talk of child labour and cobalt mining (Hey Thunberg, they're younger than you).

And btw.. we only use "green" energy to charge the car (solar, wind and water).

Some countries has built their entire energy infrastructure sources from coal and oil... It will not be easy for them......

Northern Africa is going 100% solar btw...and they will export to europe (power lines to Spain).
No need to use coal or oil if you do it right.

Sorry, but you are totally wrong.

1. Do you know how much CHILD labour there is in the OIL and COAL industry?!?! . You don't seem to care about that?
We all agree that child labour is totally wrong and we can work to get away from it by demanding to know how to trace the minerals! It has been done before and it can be done now. Do you know that your CLOTHES wasn't made by children? Don't care about that? The stores I biu clothes have been audited by third parties to be sure that the working conditions are good and that their are no child labour. If all people started doing this there wouldn't be any child labour.

Just demand from the companies that you want child labour-free products. This has been done with the clothing industry in many countries in northern europe. We, the customers, demand change and they have to provide it.

I'm a member of an organisation that tries to find child labour all over the world. This has been a problem since forever.
You don't HAVE to get minerals from those mines. You can demand that you can trace the minerals back to the source.
This is being done right now, but some countries like Congo, Russia and China are working against it...

2. Dead batteries can be RE-USED and ARE re-used. Now. Today. The minerals can be re-used and they are worth a lot of money. Why would you throw them away???

3. I can run my car at 120 km/h on battery. I dont care about huge SUV's shit like that. I have a normal family car.

4. I have clean energy from water, wind and solar to charge the batteries (and my house). For the last 25 years... NO PROBLEM.
Some countries only listens to the oil/coal companies.....

6. Luxury airplanes like the ones Thunberg ride?... She doesn't even use airplanes.. she demanded that the rest of her family stops using airplanes as well.....Her mother is a famous singer who had to change her career. Some people are just afraid of change. So obvious.
People was afraid of cars back in the day....they said it was unnatural.

Bought a Toyota Rav 4 hybrid new in August 2020 and have been using less than half the gas I used to.
I go through a half tank in 4 weeks.
Learned how to use downhills to charge the battery and playground zones to creep around using the electric motor.
My condo's underground has no plug-ins or metering and Canada has little in terms of highway charging yet.
I don't think electric is going to cut it because the power grid can't cope with hot or cold days as it is..
Unless we use modular nuclear power stations.
Hydrogen cells would seem to be the next step which is another reason I got a hybrid.
Waiting to see how the poop lands before completely commiting seems wise
