Firstly, just to say that "full-time job", in this context, is "profession". IE a professional.
Session musician, usually paid outright for recordings.
Also had some charted stuff, and every so often even over 10 years later I still get some pennies.
Also trained in live sound 30 years ago, so I sometimes get roped into that.
Suddenly had to find alternatives when the virus hit!
Not earning enough right now really, but I'm content.
But when it is our profession, and hopefully as a business, we can claim the tax back on gear and computers.
I was getting more of a 1920s Mafiosa in NY vibe.
Early? I peaked in 2004, so that's late!
I sometimes sold songs outright for up to about £1200 in the 90s. So yeah. Person needs to research his client's background!
Now THIS, for me at least, is where it's at right now.
I've seen stuff I sold come by at the sister site. It's cool.
I find it funny that I can sell some stems of a half-baked idea and other people will use the samples!

Still, the best money maker is the same as it ever was.
    Live performance.
    And then merch.

    Hello.
What does this mean to you?
To me it is a term used in regards audio for film, or in the conception of the sound of an album.
I recently saw someone say he made synth presets, and he also called it sound design.
What exactly is it that you do?
Because I really don't know what this term means! :dunno:

I bought Cubase (and still do the upgrades) along with a can-take-it-all-you-throw-at-it high end PC (customized) dreaming of getting there someday (still am!!), but I just keep hitting dead ends. As most of us here, I too have a full-time job so I try to make some time to compose but yea, I'm short of vocalists! :wow:

yep, I think you should indeed raise the price and fast. Just think how many hours it takes you to mix an entire album... how much is a cleaning lady paid per hour? skills? being able to use a broom. how much time did you take to get to where you're at? if you're good at what you're doing the work will speak for itself and people won't stop asking you for more mixing. but 60 per album... try more 60 per song. and it's still a steal! if the work is good they'll come back for more. no matter how alternative you are, there's nothing like a good mix, be it dance, r&b, folk, hardcore grindpornpunk whatever it is. if they bitch about it or if they are above such quality requirements, tell them to try and record the songs with their nokias 3030 or better still, why even bother recording, right?

When I was involved in a publishing deal I still was working a day job and used the studio on downtime, and often over night until the morning.
Plus a major is more inclined to sign a band or person if they are active in their life, and not just dossing on social benefits from their government. I have seen it first hand.
It is admirable to have got to a good stage creatively with the works as proof, whilst still being employed.
It shows that one has incentive and can be relied upon, and many other things.

i work a 07:00 - 16:00 to earn some income, have social security and access to hospitals if i need , and also once im 65y old i will have a monthly pension of around $700 to live with until i leave my last breath

thanks to ghost producing for dj's and various labels that used to rule the scene some years ago and needed their dj's and first names on flyers to have a full 2-3 hour dj set (most i've made from a track is $35k paid in cash on hand, i never registered to the tax office or what-them-called my accountant helps me out with these) ,yes i have made a decent enough bank account that i could call it a day right now and live on the rest of my life with i have never having to work another single day

however, i like that at work everyday with co-workers we talk sh*t and laugh, carrying and moving in a warehouse enviroment keeps me healthy and fit , see any college degree metagraduate office worker (sitting all day long coding python or market analytics) at his 30 and compare him to a 50 y old working in a warehouse , the 30y old is like 60 y olds with one of two feet in the grave the 50y old warehouse dude still rocking with his milf wife full energy and 6pack abs still showing

every single plugin and daw you see on sister site i have bought and own , yes i've spent over $20k on audioz + $15k on hardware synths, i've kept it all my life that i juzz love making music , music is life and without it i dont wanna exist, i work to earn trivialities such as rent, tax, electricity and phone and water bills

what keeps me going all these years is just the hope that i will make that next killer super-dope tune that will keep us dancing till sunrise and till sundawn again, music is endless and vast and we are all juzz moments away of maybe producing that tune

inspiration, emotion , music is a way of life - end of story .........a hobby is fishing, doing some yoga, grilling that perfect vegan steak-ribs made out of soy beans, driving drones spying on that next door milf that always hangs her clothes out on the string wearing only thong and see-thruz,doin some woodwork making cabinets or heirloom boxes to store useless shit that have no value whatsoever

All kinds of stuff, creating for example sounds with field recordings, synth presets, drones, etc.
Basically everything, which is artificial created and makes a sound in some way.

This was for Sylenth1, v-station and massive presets, which i gave away for free. Thias was all at a time, where we were not drowning in commercial presets - means vengeance, Adam Szabo and a few others release soundssets and only factory presets. you cant imagine how open and hungry people were for free presets.

Ah! Thank you. I see now.
Oh, I don't have to imagine! I've been in this for a few decades.
    And V-Station too? Cool.
You've got a skill I left behind in the 90s.
I very rarely create from scratch now; I'll just find a preset similar to what I'm hearing in my mind and tweak it!
And I don't feel any guilt, especially as I'm usually having to write and record as a multi-instrumentalist/mentalist.
But then I did many years prior of creating patches with analogue and then DCO synths.
And I'm glad I don't have to do it anymore! hehe.

The beginning of the new era was great. When the car and television were invented, it was probably similar, everyone wanted them.

Here is an example of my yellow soundsets on PatchArena - statistics from November 20, 2018.
1.) The Free 100 E-lec-tro sounds by CHE for the Image Line - Harmor VSTi = 124675 Downloads
2.) The Cosmic Trigger Soundset by CHE for the Xfer Records - Serum VSTi = 85469 Downloads

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm in South America so 200 euros to me is a lot of money, haha. But I'll take that into consideration next job, are you from Germany?

How did you start doing mixes for these bands? Was it locally or did you signup on Fiverr or something? I worked in a studio after engineering school for a bit but then they all closed down here and I haven't really gotten the ball rolling on like doing mixes over the internet.

After the studio I started working as a live audio engineer mixing for concerts but now with the pandemic that job is basically gone toooooo.....

Any info would be much appreciated.

Agreed. If one has music theory and music tech truly under their belt, there are sooo many ways to create an income.
I'm doing three different types of musically related work right now! Teaching an instrument can become a gold mine.
One bit of work will usually lead you to the next. You just need that one! Maybe find a young band. Make them sound better, and you are indispensable.
    Whoah, wait up!
What has suddenly happened to your grammar??? Are you having a stroke?
All that makes no sense in English.
And you're the copy/paste guy, yeah?
    I understand now.
