I was considering buying a PC to serve as an alternative choice to record music on my MacBook....

My understanding here is that the majority of the plugins available on the sister site are for Windows...

    Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts?

My question to you is what does alternative choice to record music even mean? While MacOS and Windows are different, most of the software/plugins are the exact same (excluding some exclusive ones like Logic Pro).

Buying a PC is a very good wise decision. You get more software for Windows.
If something breaks, you can replace it, if you want to upgrade your PC, that's no problem.

Attention every satisfied Mac user here will recommend a Mac to you.
Attention every satisfied Windows user will recommend Windows to you.

The market share of Windows users is around 75%.

I have both, and recommend that. To be honest though I mostly use windoze. That is only because it's all I had at first. I wouldn't say (anymore) that one is better than the other. I also have linux on a thumb drive so I can jump on that if I want to. It's good to have choices. There does seem to be more windows posted, but I also see plenty of mac posts. If you get to spend any real time MAKING MUSIC you will pass a lot up anyhow.

Good idea: Cracking MAC apps is hard whereas Windows apps is easy and the same goes for virus, malware, hacking etc :like:

Bad idea: I see more creative, productive and utility apps available for handheld devices are in iOS Store whereas Android has less such apps in Playstore but it is totally opposite for desk/lap devices :metal:

Thoughts: I use both, Win for personal use and MAC for professional use and even Linux for coding - pentesting - hacking...

I've both but only use the Mac. Windows for video editing, the Mac in my opinion does the job with less hassle vs the windows.:winker:

No idea what computer would be better for your audio productions, but try to imagine your life using only the PC ... you will feel miserable.
Just think that with a PC you could no longer experience all this:

This has nothing to do with the issue, he already has a Mac and there are props and cons to both OSes.

Macs are so overrated, and so overpriced. And when they break, they often break in really bad ways.

I've had two or three. Liked them, didn't love them. They can't do anything that a PC can't.

I use my PC just for gaming. I have enough music software on my Mac to make music.
and I prefer making music than collecting warez. Keep It Simple.

    So you know the system
on sister site you'll find the big plugins for Mac or PC (Aruria, Waves, Fabfilter what ever ...)

    two reason for MAC
    LOGIC PRO,
    known system for you

    two reason for PC
Price (low end and used PC's, even second hand MACs are normally expensive than PCs)
    and upgradeability

In the end it doesn't even matter, as long you can make good music with it :winker:

It is always good to have alternatives, it gives you more flexibility having both formats.

Right, but quantity is not as important as quality is. Sure, it can be fun to test a gazillion pluggies but at the end of the day you don't use 30 or more different EQs or compressors, rather less than 10.

IF they break... I manhandled one I bought new in 2009.... and just replaced it recently, not because anything broke, but because I wanted a faster computer... Macs are not over priced because they are easily comparable to a 2500 dollar desktop computer, the only difference is you cant take your desktop computer onto a plane... windows laptops are straight fucking garbage compared to macs
