I wonder if there is any good plugin or software that allows to remove vocals from a song and keep the best possible instrumental part. I have seen some online Karaoke files made out of the original tracks. Any help or tip would be very much appreciated.

There are several that claim to do it with varying results.
There are a number of free online websites, google vocal remover.
Of the pro software, Izotope RX 9 is the one to try.

If RX can't do it no other website that uses the same github code will do.

LALAL.AI is the best online vocal isolation I've ever used but free plan has some limitations.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. To be honest I was expecting to get no answer or "Try audacity, but do not expect much" as answer and didn't know that some other choices existed. I am going to give Izotope RX a try as suggested. (I don't think https://hitnmix.com is available for free dl!) I also tried lalal and result was quiet impressive! I will report back once I have tried Izotope.

Steinberg Spectralayers is a secret weapon for this. Find it on the sister site.

Came back just to thank you again. Knowledge is power! Thanks for sharing. The result with Izotope was beyond what I expected and much better then lalal. Great end of year gift :)

This is interesting because I've seen some remixers use extracted vocals from a pop song and it sounded surprisingly natural.

The thing is removing vocals from a song have been studied for decades now. Or isolating them, technically almost the same. If the vocals are panned dead center you can get nice results only by using the "stereo trick". If you add more refinements like in modern audio editors can get very good results.

I installed Spectralayers and spent few hours figuring out how it works. It automatically separates vocals from a song as good as (or maybe a little better) then Izotope. But once that is done it has powerful options to clean up the audio and make it almost perfect.
Spectralayers is a must try software! Thanks for sharing huga.:mates:

Oh, this one is pretty cool. More so with added GUI and the whole package. It uses AI (deep learning) so it's slow, keep that in mind. But it pays off according to a trusty review I saw.

Well, RX and Spleeter have already been mentioned. To my understanding they both use the same dataset for demixing so the results should be the same.

This is my process: first separate using either of the aforementioned tools (I use Spleeter), then use an EQ to kill low frequencies and a bit of high end to get rid of artifacts from other demixed tracks and finally kill all stereo information using a M/S matrix, as vocals are usually mixed straight center.
