Do you have any links regarding his studio work? His output is very polished.

 

Or just accept the fact that some people are really good at their craft (he made over 1300 mixes - at least documented official releases) and can make with Waves, PT and MH Channel strip anything sound awesome. There is a huge threat on GS where his partner John Hanes talks, you'd be amazed what simple workflow they have.

exactly, when this guy hit digital he had an analog background which means basically a ssl desk and whatever riley favoured at the time (changed a lot) so back in the day you had to get the best out of a simple ssl channel plus a 1176 and la2a. how you used this defined you as an artist. it was like a guitar. 100000guitars wont make you jimi hendrix but "how" you tickle those strings. get the tools you got to do what you wanna hear and once you find it, stick to a running system. finding your running system is part of the art. it surely isnt buying the latest plugins. but its fun isnt it

 

Huh I was wandering why this name seemed familiar, Mr. Șerban is Romanian of origin but schooled in Canada. Awesome knowing that behind the scenes of so many hits lays a fellow Romanian

He is 100% ITB. Just shows what practice and good ears mean.

BUT he probably gets exceptional recorded material and as we know its all about the source.

Woah, that's a lot of information you just laid down there. Like so much that, you could've chosen to not comment and still get your point across.

 

I truly hope one day he writes a technical book on mixing. There truly is something special about the way he mixes vocals, his taste in stereo width & reverb... I respect his choice to remain private 100%, but when he retires it would be a shame if people couldn't build upon his techniques.

His son is also mixing so his legacy will not be lost. Probably one needs a huge amount of time to spend with Serban to learn taste. And probably 1 in 100 will be up to the task. The rest are busy hunting specs
