I have an interface but its NI, and I don't know if there is a "soundcard" program available for it that I can use to adjust the sound.

Is there anything available I can use to cut sibilance in windows audio? Like sibilance in youtube videos or zoom calls?

De-esser plugin in standalone? There is no dedicated deesser.

    [Hardware] SPL 9629 De-Esser (£495) https://www.thomann.de/gb/spl_deesser_9629.htm

You could use the standalone of Blue Cat's Patchwork, get a de-esser plugin, and route your browser to it and monitor it, with maybe Rogue Amoeba's Loopback*. (* Or the equivalent on Windows! Sorry!)
    Hope this helps.
I actually read your post! lol
edit: Patchwork also hosts instruments, as below. Although I know it isn't relevant.

take seib's vsthost. it hosts vst2 & vst3 effects (& instruments too), and takes virtual & physical audio in & outs. and it starts fast!

i just took a look, asio and the win drivers are both supported.

You can dive into the world of vst hosts or use a Chrome extension for the browser.

lol okay thanks. Everything I've come across has been saying to route it through audacity or something. I found an EQ extention for firefox but nothing to use outside the browser. I thought there might be something to clean up non daw/ live audio, but I guess not.

So I gave this a go, but it crashes after plugin scan. It's probably an issue on my end, so I'll mess around with it and see.

What exactly you want to achieve. Do you want to batch process audio files to cut sibilance or do you want to record audio for streaming or similar purpose?

So you want a "global" de-esser real-time that is applied to all Windows sounds?
If I got it right there's a couple of "virtual sound out" programs/drivers that allows you to put VST effects. Don't remember their names.

If that doesn't work, have a look at NanoHost.

    Blue Cat's Patchwork won't!

    "What is special about NanoHost?
    • There is no plugin-scanning required since a plugin can be loaded directly - no matter where it is located on the hard-disc.

If this annoys you, the problem increases, ignoring it is best.

The free "VLC media player" has an equalizer, there you could lower the frequencies 2–10 kHz.

De-essing (also desibilizing) is any technique intended to reduce or eliminate the excessive prominence of sibilant consonants, such as the sounds normally represented in English by "s", "z", "ch", "j" and "sh", in recordings of the human voice. Sibilance lies in frequencies anywhere between 2–10 kHz, depending on the individual voice. This article discusses the cause of the problem of excessive recorded sibilance and several approaches to the process of fixing it.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De-essing

Thanks. all this is very helpful. I truly hate my ears for the sensitivity. Its like a glass needle in the ear drums.:(

I don't have that windows eq because I'm using an interface. In the interface options there is a loudness normalization, but I don't want it running across the board, because then it will affect audio coming out of my daw. and it is a live thing. Sometimes you can't ignore it, like a meeting or something.

Really it has to be a de-esser because its a dynamic thing that comes in when its needed and won't affect the rest of the signal, and I can toggle it on/off.

I'll give the other hosts a try. Thx

You can also use your mainboard audio chip and not your NI audio interface. Many have separated it, audio interface only for making music in the DAW. And the audio chip for YouTube and VLC players, for example. That would be much better for your glass needle ears, because the audio chip does not have the high-resolution quality and you can also use the EQ there.
