The logistics of releasing 1-3TB of libraries at an average of over 50GB+ per library is mindboggling. If you thought grabbing a 5GB UVI Falcon library from sister site with no mirrors before files got DMCA'd was challenging, just wait for the real EWQL GONGGG show to begin.

Torrents will be the preferred way to go for many users but those transfers are likely going to crawl with the amount of upload required for each library. Then again dual layer full Blurays are 50GB and they get released and distro'd without much trouble so we'll see what happens.

Fun fact: Hollywood opus library would take 1498 CD to store, and if you prefer Floppy Discs you would need 13.333.333 of them. Technology is indeed evolving fast

I've got 104 UVI libraries sat on an external drive (currently 550GB).
If I were to give up my day job, and spend all waking hours for the 12 months using nothing but Falcon, I doubt I would have had the time to audition more than 2% of the available presets.
And now we are talking about 1TB for one EW Library???

 

If it's any consolation, if they do release the 1TB Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, they will likely have to release it in separate sections like Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, Solo, Percussion, etc. so individually they'll be around 100-300GB each.

The Spitfire Symphonic Professional Series is about 100-200GB for each section and that is already released.

If we talk about EW Opus, it's worth mentioning that it has only 130 GB of brand new recordings, the remaining 800 are the original stuff recorded in mid 2000's, pretty much outdated, I guess. That would be nice if we could choose what to install

 

I always wonder if with all the uvi and ew libraries (which will be released later) will occupy the 10 tb of those who mentioned r2r? lots of free space

Pretty sure the EW guys still use those recordings to make tracks for trailers etc. Old =/= outdated.

To clear the issue with the different EW libraries:

EW released different Libraries during the years:

The first type is called the EastWest 25th Anniversary Collection and it contains the "old" classic EW sample libraries from AKAI and other sampler formats released on CD-ROM, converted for the EW Play engine. Unfortunatly the conversation of some of these libraries are a bit rough. One stereo channel only, partly with FX recorded in the samples. I say rough because for example the "Twisted Textures" is a one to one conversation of Pads only playing on one note instead stretched across the keyboard to play different tones... Other libraries are still great like Stormdrum 1 - But like I said, this are very old libraries:

i used those old EW libraries on my akai 3200xl, all samples at that time came from a handful of companies... paid off

i think r2r were talking about the downloadable current ones

i calculated 2.x tb

Funny enough, I just saw Orchestral Suite on sale for right now

With regards to EastWest, the new OPUS engine is compatible with all of EastWest's libraries. It's not just for the Hollywood Opus Edition. So you can use the OPUS engine with the Pianos and all of their older legacy libraries. I wouldn't worry about having to use the PLAY engine anymore.

 

From what i can see, i'm not interested in any EW stuff at all. Total waste of space that does not improve my music. Nothing i would not be able to achive with already available synths. And finally nothing i do need to download for ages from different sources and hoping to complete them before they get deleted.
