hi, please help with this win 10 thingy. is there the 1 gamechanger setting to make it do what i need?
deactivated defender and real time protection, uac, dep, ecerything else related to security amd privacy.

after a fresh install, i`m not getting anywhere. installed take ownership, it does its thing and says done, but no access to documents+settings folder. made myself the super administrator, still permission denied. no access.

installed bc patchwork 2.4.3 r2r, crashes/vanishes when trying to get to the audio setup.

any suggestions for the 1 thing i really need to do are really appreciated. getting nowhere for days now.
thank you all for all the other helpful threads on this forim.

I would seriously question my need for a 3rd party program called "Take Ownership" if I couldn't open documents folders while using it.

those types of programs can sometimes do very strange things. I would probably undo whatever it did, and try it again anyway expecting a different result. they can sometimes even make it harder for you to figure out your real problem. :guru:

i take it then i should have permission to access documents+settings, not via users - me - documents, but @ c:\documents and settings

If you need to see the C:\Documents and Settings link, first you have to enable “Show hidden files and folders” from the Folder Options in Windows Explorer.

How to log in as an administrator
If you log in as an administrator on Windows 10 , you can change settings for all user accounts on the computer. You can also install and uninstall hardware and software in this way. The first thing you need to do is activate the administrator account:

    1. Simultaneously press the [Win] + [R] keys to open the Run dialog.
    2. Enter the cmd command to start the command prompt. But do not confirm this directly with the OK button.
    3. Hold down the [Ctrl] + [Shift] keys and click the OK button . Only in this way can the input prompt change system settings in the next step. Confirm the security question with Yes .
    4. Enter the command net user administrator / active : yes at the command prompt . After confirming with [Enter] , the administrator account is activated but not yet loaded.
    5. To do this, open the start menu. Click on your profile picture in the left bar and select the Administrator user account .
    6. As the administrator, you should only make the settings that are absolutely necessary. Otherwise, you could damage the system.
    7. Deactivate the administrator account again with the command net user administrator / active: no in the command prompt.
