Which artist and album has been your favorite this year?

I personally think Daft Punk has created their masterpiece with the album 'Random Access Memory' this year. Really enjoyed the album.

Much anticipated for metal heads, Black Sabbath's '13' was disappointing. It was mediocre at best.

David bowie, MBV wasn't bad, but again nothing special.

Overall Daft Punk blew me away this year.

Which has been your favorite? Any suggestions? (any genre welcome)

I didn't like Daft Punk's last release that much at all. This year of time i like more quiet stuff. Vàli's last release maybe... I can't really think of any one album right know to be honest.

    +1 *yes*

it's a good topic, but it is incorrect to choose the best album among all the genres. let's restrict it to one genre *yes*
which one will it be dr.evil?

    Agreed SAiNT.

Since most of the peeps here are into computer and/or electronic based music lets keep the genre to 'Electronic' music. Trance, House, progressive whatever.

Daft Punk is an electronic music band so you already got my pick.

I rate 'Random Access Memory' highly because, lets be honest EDM was becoming monotonous and boring but this album broke the industry pattern.
They blended 70's/80's style of funk and discotheque and the variety of music is incredible. Just not usual EDM..

p.s. there should be more topics about music albums rather than noob complaints about cracked plugs in Audiosex.. just an input.. :break:

Dream Theater the ONLY new album i heard this year and most likey better than any of the ones we are gonna see here as 99% will be dance albums where they NEVER PLAY ANY INSTRUMENTS AT ALL only uses samples and loops

I have to agree to some extent.. Dream Theatre are legends. Now i have to dl the album. NME magazine voted Arctic Monkeys with the best album of 2013. Altho I found it to be ordinary british rock.

As for the EDM fans, I still haven't got any mention of an album from them!!

Above and Beyond is working on a new album. But that's due n 2014. Probably the best EDM artists ever and my fav..

I thought Daft punks latest effort was one of there worst albums...

Derivative from start to finish, actually i thought the last track on the album was ok...

Id rather put on a proper Chic album tho if i wanted that whole funky dance vibe!

That's easy, for me it's Skinny Puppy's "Weapon". great album. Excellent modern production. ♥ It! And it's full of lyrics with some meaning other than "I love you, but you don't love me", "I've got money, but you don't" and similar oh so profound lyrics that contemporary music is plagued with. Just take a listen to the "illisiT" or "saLvo" for a start.

Metropolis Records has uploaded the whole album to their Youtube account here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpbKEH__GiM&list=PLC2Xaem_avOHTxFXaQSiIZWfzhPZfymVO

Daft Punk's new album only takes the over-hyped reward for me. It's not bad, though, but nothing spectacular also.

I have to "inspect" the new Dream Theatre, David Bowie, and Arctic Monkey's albums. These might be interesting, too. Thank you! Threads like this are great to find music you somehow managed to miss. We should have them regularly IMHO. And I should read NME more regularly, too, but it's so full of crap and it's hard to filter it all out! There should be a "crap detector filter" for Firefox!

    Cheers!

Thanx for the recommendations guys. I beleive Good music is good music irrespective of genres.

gotta listen to PVD, Corsten, muse and skinny puppy! I did listen to AVB's Intense, but honestly it was disappointing.

Lastly, I must mention Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Here's a song from their last album. Good alternate band imo.-

I'm also not really worried about different genres. Good music comes in all genres. :) I think I don't like the genre of "POP", though. Especially last decade or so. Everything else goes. I tend to like people who do it out of love for music, not out of love for fame and glory.

There are too many people who are in it to become "rich and famous" and absolutely nothing else. That's sad. Art in general has come to a really low point last 50 or so years. Art has just become a commodity like a hamburger. There's cheap art and expensive art. Expensive art is praised by some self appointed "arts critics" who people believe for some reason that completely escapes me , to be right about what's good and what's bad art. :( On the other hand, "cheap art" is so much more interesting because it's more diverse and just interesting. This is why I'm also not really fond of "genres". I cringe at classifying mostly everything, and it's really hard to classify art. Who is anybody to classify it but the artist him or herself? Leave it upon the artist, if he or she wants to classify it. Bloody critics, arseholes. Hate the leeches... and they usually know as much about art as my arsehole knows about Plato or Nietzsche.

Oh yes, that too. :mates:

Art should be free. Made for free, consumed for free.

However, there should be some "mechanism" to keep people to do it, to motivate them, and feed them. I always think about how it is in Sweden as I have a dozen of friends there, they get subsidised by the government for what they do. I actually think that's the best way. People themselves shouldn't pay for art, but governments should pay the artists to be able to live normally, nothing too fancy... just normal. Many artists I know live rather ascetic lives and they are perfectly alright with that. It's just when people are starving or don't have any medical care that things can get really rough... one thing about the US I hate. You can't be an artist and have social security and medical care there, that is unless you sell hundreds of thousands of albums, of course. That's why your art sucks big time because you're in it for the money and fame, mostly solely for the money that 90% of ends up in the hands of the "industry leeches" anyway. That's not the way art works because then you get art that is solely produced for money and thought "what appeals to the majority of people so I can sell more and become rich and famous?". Majority of the people are dumb arse mofos. You shouldn't sell to them what they like. That's the easiest path most "artists" take. You should sell to them what they don't like! So you're looking to appeal to them? LOL That attitude fucks up art big time. True art is revolutionary. True art is something to make people think and philosophise! True art is questioning the authority and the system! That's why nothing original comes from the US. The US is a nation of "I make it for the general public so I can sell more shit" people. Making it for the general public hasn't brightened up or made any wiser anyone, the least art. You have to be revolutionary to be an artist. You have to hate the society and bring up the worst in it out. Art is a kind of public ethical and moral filter IMO, not a one night stand or a hamburger you can sell. ;)

But yes - the whole system is f-ud up. I don't like to judge people, but I judge the system in your countries that haven't awakened yet. All this survival of the fittest thing is a thing for animals, not humans. We should be the one to set an example of empathy towards others, but we still live in the prehistoric age. :(

I don't care about what anyone thinks about my work. I do care about what my wife thinks of it, though. LOL Money? It'll come. It's secondary worry here, always. I just think about expressing myself the best I can. That's what art is all about. Open your eyes. However, this is not Gearslutz or KvR... in my experience people's eyes are rather open already here, so the last sentence is a bit redundant.

Man, I love this forum. I mostly never fit in anywhere.

p.s. please excuse my "ADD". I get carried away, like after two sentences... then other two... then other two... only to realise that I've been talking about something else. I don't believe it's a psychological disease, it's just how some people are. That's why I put quote marks around ADD.

BTW DOES AUDIOZ HAVE AN IRC CHANNEL? You remember good old IRC? I suggest irc.undernet.org for IRC
