I can't begin to express how powerful the Audiogridder 1.1 combination is...It's just Nuts.
Direct connection Ethernet to Ethernet. I'm running a 42' screen for the Mac and a 32' screen for the I7. I prefer separate screens although the audioGridder instance is displayed on the Mac screen as it's just quicker and more logical for me

    Mac mini M1 Monteray, 16gig/512gig.
    Thunderbolt Hub - External chassis 1TB SSD - 1x 4Tb USBc - 2x 2Tb USBc - 2x 512gb USBc SSD's
I run this as my main DAW using the latest Studio One 5, Bitwig and Logic with the AudioGridder VST.
All my Mac plugs are heavily curated down to only the ones I love to use.

I have selected Kontakt libraries in addition to a large carefully curated Sample library for drop and drag into my DAW's.
I do lots of video editing, composing, and sound design on this machine and it just works very reliably and efficiently.

Intel I7 Nuc Win 10 32gig ram. 512gb m.2 SSD + 7.6Tb SATA SSD (Not connected to the Internet)
I run this as my main Server with huge Kontakt, Falcon, Reason Libraries. I have trimmed down my Plugins and VSTi's but most of the best of the best Windows plugs are there in abundance. I also have all my impulse libraries for guitar cabs, reverbs etc. DSP muscle on steroids.
I think it's important to never connect this to the net, if you have to ask why then you haven't been down that road with Windows. All plugs are transferred via thunderbolt on an external SSD

This combination gives me the best of both Mac and Windows worlds with very low latency. I tend to print lots of parts and retain the midi for additional edits. This is just a personal workflow choice to limit my choices and speed up the exponential procrastination afforded with the potential of combinations faced with such power. It's a hangover from my sampling days where I had to commit.

Anyways, I was headed down the Appollo path (a great choice) but chose this route first which has proved to be the perfect choice for my workflow. It's finicky and fiddly to set it up but once you get used to the idiosyncrasies, it's incredibly inspiring.

Yeah, me too. VEP is fantastic. I particularly like the way that it automatically recalls the setup state via the DAW on the other CPU. I open a session in Logic on Mac 1 and VEP on Mac 2 simply appears! Its rock solid and so fast.

    I love it.

If VEP is fantastic, what about CrossGridder 1.2? I am sure it is going to be the next big hit when it comes to audio plugins. Just read the PDF and amaze. https://github.com/CrossGridder/CrossGridder_1.2

    yea it's AudioGridderServer.exe wrapped in a CrossOver 21 Bottle,
somebody scammed gmb's work from MSJ and even asks for donations from stolen work

EDIT - github link by Heraclitus above is the right one

    Hi guys
    New here :)
Loving audiogridder, I got to try the oh so almighty Neural DSP which aren't cracked for MacOS unfortunately.
Other than the Cory Wong one, wasn't impressed, the hi-gain is too milennial sounding to my ears.

Did anybody have any success with Softube plugins?
Amp room simply crashes, all Marshall heads just do not produce any sound. Their spring reverb doesn't work in Stereo and only outputs a mono signal for some reason.

Could it be my Windows for some reason? All that C++ redist packages were installed prior.
Really wanna try out these Marshalls ya know

Running Virtual Instruments through Audiogridder (or Crossgridder) in Real Time...

How difficult is it? What are the parameters that most impact performance (Network speed? Server computer specs? Client computer specs? etc)

I'd like to have a central server that hosts all my virtual instruments and be able to access them on PC or Mac in realtime, possibly with multiple instances of the same instrument across multiple clients. Is this possible?

did you try contacting the creator of CrossGridder via the same email you requested the download of his project?
he might have dealt with the issue yet...

    Audiogridder UPDATE's Available

    https://audiogridder.com/latest-releases/

    ChangeLog
    Release 1.2.0 Beta 8

    05 May 2022

    Plugin
    • Fixed service receiver reachable issue:
The server list was updated before checking the reachability and cleaned up afterwards. This could lead to the plugin triggering a reconnect. This issue materialized on Windows with ipv4 and ipv6 enabled.
    Server
    • Optimized local mode
This change avoids flickering when opening a plugin UI by rendering it at the target position initially to avoid moving it and by waiting for editor creation in the worker thread.

    Release 1.2.0 Beta 7

    03 May 2022

    General
    • NEW Use unix domain sockets for the communication between plugins, server and sandboxes:
In the following cases we will prefer unix domain sockets over TCP for performance improvements:
      • A plugin connects to a server/sandbox with local mode enabled
      • Plugin communication with the tray application
    • Sandbox communication with the server in plugin isolation mode
    • NEW Added IPv6 support
    • NEW Clipboard sharing and Copy & Paste support
    • Improved window positioning with local mode enabled:
Plugin windows are properly positioned by aligning to the DAW window size rather than the rendered editor space. This resolves issues with AG zoom enabled, if DAW plugin windows are larger than the AG editor itself and scaling on Windows.
    • Improved mDNS server detection:
The plugin will perform connectivity checks before showing a server entry. Also, remote servers in local mode will not be shown anymore.
    • Fixed memory file access flags on windows, this could have led to loosing window positions
    • Fixed numpad support (resolves #938)
    Plugin
    • NEW Added an option to bypass the AG plugin when disconnected or not loaded (resolves #778)
    • NEW Added an option to keep the plugin window open on the server when closing the AG plugin in the DAW (resolves #710)
    • NEW Allow individual buffer settings by AG plugin
    • NEW Added tooltips to failed remote plugins that show the error string
    • Improved Plugin Monitor:
      • Added “not loaded” (yellow) state and error tooltips
      • Scrolling support
    • Improved AudioStreamer outbound buffering
    • Improved instrument bus/channel setup (mainly for Logic, enable more mono/stereo bus combinations)
    • Fixed a memory leak in processBlock
    • Fixed search window crashes
    • Fixed removal of failed remote plugins
    Server
    • NEW Sandbox mode – Plugin Isolation:
In addition to isolating a plugin chain in a separate process, each loaded remote plugin will be isolated in its own sandbox process.
    • NEW ID based configurations:
Multiple servers can be run on one computer using different IDs. Each server will have a dedicated config going forward. This allows for running x86 and arm servers on the same macOS instance using different plugin folders etc.
    • NEW Much faster plugin scans
    • NEW Multi-select actions (activate/deactivate/unban) in the plugin manager (resolves #892)
    • Try a few more channel layouts before falling back to the plugin default
    • Improved plugin ID (VST3) cross platform compatibility
    • Improved plugin UI bounds detection
    • Make sure plugin windows get positioned in the user area to avoid overlapping taskbars (resolves #671)
    • Show a warning with plugins that failed after scanning
    • Fixed a VST3 initialization bug
    • Fixed mouse position calculation in fullscreen mode
    • Fixed some memory corruption errors

That is a lot 90ms, I use Waves Soundgrid which is less than 1 ms. Eventually Audiogridder will improve on that or does it depend on your network speed?.

So what´s the latency for you guys? Is there any difference between 1G, 2,5G or 10G connection in terms of latency?
Been watching old servers on ebay for this purpose, but haven´t yet decided..

    Thank you in advance

Hey Legotron - Latency can depend on the actual plugin your using in the AG server and the AG buffer settings, if you have a kick ass server(great cpu and ram) you can run this setting very low or even at 0.

From the developer - One complete I/O buffer defines a block in AG. The larger the buffer (in samples) the higher the latency added by a block.

(block is the buffer size in AG) so if your soundcard is set to 128 as the buffer - 1 block in AG=128

As far as I can tell there is no difference in ethernet speeds in terms of real-time (play back) latency. But apparently when you bounce offline it's different.
From the developer - If you would do an offline bounce, the DAW is passing audio data as fast as possible, and AG should use as much bandwidth as it can get and the server/plugins can process.
So not really necessary so it seems to have faster than 1g ethernet.
Maybe @iBuffalo can chime in on this topic.

This is great resource for info and asking questions from the Dev.
