They are the easiest and most efficient. The Pultec trick just works on almost anything.
When you already tried many mastering EQs and still not sure, just try a Pultec EQ, you would be amazed at the results.

You can replicate pultec curves with pro-q (with the same amount of bands) if such curves are needed at the final stage. If you think pultec=good, otherdigitaleq=bad, then you don't really know what you're doing. Not every song needs a dip at 200, not every song needs a shelf lift from 1K to 20Hz. Some guys did their best 60 years ago but that's it. We have way more precise tools nowdays.

all these analogue-wannabe filters , all these omnisphere falcon rompler-synths rock tune makers, they are juzz kiddie sounds for guitar players such as myself or bassists to play around with , serious EDM producers, rap hiphop trap producers, guys evolving the sound with the use of cool female vocals , we need FLUX vst fx , synths like Hive,Diva,Vital , Rapid , Narcotic evolving midi shaping lfos midishapers ,sidechainers that punch against speakers and such , the beatles the soldier of fortune the metallica black album, im sick of listening to this boring tune they play all day long on radio while at work , about time we make our stand , they are juzz industry boring standards

my vote goes for pultec (hardware) is like drive a muscle car, for example, you want lower 630Hz, and no control for that freq, then you make gain at 100 and 2K . . . low the volume, and boom 630Hz lowered, but you need to make this with your ears, like drifting a muscle car finding the exactly angle . . . .
This not works in plugins because lots of factors, real car vs playstaton car . . . . yes seems the same, very realistic, but of course is not the same, not air in your face . . . no real sound of wheels . . . .
I like pultec, and emulations like spl passeq (the "plugin alliance" plugin is a totally joke ) . . . . but i am old school, of course
In ableton live, put external audio effect, conect the pultec in your master chain and . . . now is Ableton LIFE . . . :)

It is not about a specific curve that you can add with every EQ. Its the Sound of those EQ's. Some of them are better for High's other better for Low's. The Pultec can be really good for the High- but also for the Lowend.

Also for example the Mäag Audio EQ4 is really good for the high end.

And there is this kinda "famous" pultec trick setting where you first pull up the frequency and then lower it with the other knob. So its adding something to the sound.

Totally agree. But not all plugins are bad.
The interesting thing is that it adds moro mojo yet its still cleaner than plugins.
This is digital harmonic distortion that is nastier compared to real good distortion/saturation.

If you're talking about soft only, I prefer a digital EQ and saturation of choice. Way more versatile.

I could see someone use it in mastering, but find it way to crude to be on my master buss.

The purpose of Pultec EQ is to use on combination sounds (Mix/Master bus) and it's really good at it.

I think OP is just saying that Pultecs are fool proof. It's hard to make it sound bad by doing to much, I guess that always depends on your sound source.

For mastering all you need is a lot of weed and Sausage Fattener plugin.
