Hope it's going to be as lightweight, fast and functional as it used to be a long time ago.

Seems unlikely, as Justin Frankel of REAPER (also Gnutella creator and crazy ninja coder) sold Winamp years ago, and looking at that landing page it seems the company that picked it up is more interested in making it a streaming aggregator with a legendary brandname slapped on.
Foobar2000 is still king, but I wonder if there's a way of getting the Winamp visualiser integrated with a script, to play at VGA resolution for some nostalgic 90s jams.

So Justin Frankel (Developer of Reaper and Winamp) is continuing the development of winamp? If not, I do not care. Foobar is a great player. There are many light weight great open source projects to play audio, video and watch images. Time has changed. Do not sell yourself to marketing.

I hope it's not too late for Winamp. I'm still using it as of today but for sample browsing and other stuff I switched to other players.
Hope they take care of that, would be pretty nice.

the one program i never stopped using.

its incredible that NO ONE has being able to replicate the ease of use, not in windows not in mac

many have tried, but they haven't managed to grasp that perfect balance of light-weighted simplicity without being basic. they always went to basic or to much.

i hope they can hold back from bloating it down. its not going to be easy. but i suspect ill keep using it as my main audio player in windows until the end of times. well see

Check the WinAmp Community Update Project, they have been keeping it updated and optimised for many years, I never had to change: https://getwacup.com

    Exactly.
I don't quite understand the hype, I'm still using it, and btw it can use the old original skin if required (I don't).

I find useful a pair of Wa plugins that cannot find anywhere else : variable dynamic compressor/gain like audiostocker or rocksteady (Off topic: I would find useful those for an android player but the only one that gets a bit nearer is Neutron, does anybody know a player using the same kind of variable compressor/gain?).
And there is also slowmedown by Roni (Amazing Slow Downer)!
