Yall know of any good VSTs where guitar sounds are made using a physical model or something very similar instead of a sampler? Kind of like Pianoteq but for guitars

 

you mean something like this ? they claim it guitar synth, but the installer is around 2GB.

 

AAS STRUM GS-2 have some good presets, not real like the real thing but do the job.

Sculpture in Logic is OK if you are in a pinch.

 

Modeling a guitar seems to be the holy grail. I have never heard a completely modelled one that sounded like a real guitar 1:1, not mentioning that playing such an instrument on a keyboard would be yet another challenge.

 

For me Ample Sound guitars sound the closest to the real thing. Mind you, though, I'm a Ministry and Rammstein fan... so I crank them up to 12 with Helix 3 or Amplitude 4. High-gain any guitar and it will sound "samish" . But for a cleaner type of sound I'd still suggest Ample Sound guitars.

I also use real pedals for when I think it's worth it. It's just easier when you have an idea and you're in the "zone" to use a plugin and quickly make the track. Refining it comes later. If I think plugins are not doing it properly.

 

There's IronAxe, a 'high-end Physical Modeling simulation' so they say. They're overselling it, but it's okay for sketching out stuff.

IronAxe is pretty nice, hopefully 64-bit version will be available. I have also tried Wedge Force Matcha through my PA subscription and I was pleasantly suprised how it sounds through some good amps

the last update to ironaxe was almost a decade ago. the developer said he was coming out with a 64-bit version, and then he pretty much abandoned the product. it's not bad considering its age.

 

But this is a sample library, isn' it? 10GB!
