I own many AA, there are many reasons why, the main reason is that for my own experience these were the plugins that explained to me how analog processors work (I had no clue before !!) so for me it has been a long educational service for my mixing. I guess (?) it's UAD for many.
I stoped buying the newer ones this year, because as Donut Nyamer rightfully explained

GC will just say to use the latest M1 Max... yeah.. great. Then it will be the Max4. Sometimes I feel he works for Apple.

When you get quite serious for big mixing sessions these plugins are a joke, and actually I find other ones to sound equally as good or... even better ! Some do sound very nice though, but really not worth the processing power. Audiogridder helps a tiny bit, then it crashes.
The good ones being the mastering ones I guess, and diamond series. imho.

I would be extremely curious to see if the protection affects the performance, if R2R can show us it will be one hell of a ride for legit owners...
Latency is abysmal, processing power is huge and downloading an insane amount of data for some channel strips takes a million years, even with the data backed up on a external hard drive "for quick install" yeah lol (my internet is very fast please and thank you)

So yeah R2R showed us that anything is possible, it would be fun ! But at the same time, why would they waste their time lol... if so many Gbs a crypted.. if they do EW I guess they can do AA !

 

People lets not forget he is a human being and a developer.
Yes he is controversial and the decision to punish legit users with nebula price increase was a dick move.
But he is also very capable and he is bringing something different to the table with his plugins.
Let us not resort to typical group violence and hate.
There are thousands of people in the world who actually want to make our lives miserable, he is not one of them, he is just a plugin developer and a businessman.

He's also extremely jealous and acted like a douche pretty much on every occasion he's been spotted public.

Never understood the hype for these trashy plugs, developed by a fucking idiot. Wouldn't use if they were free. One of the last (and most hyped) Acustica plugs that I tried (hyped for "analog warmth") just started chaotically beeping / screeching (blown speakers style) when I tried to push / overload it. To see if it actually distorted liek analog / it was supposed to. Absolute fucking garbage. The fact that the technology is just sampling (not modelling) OAP gear and uses more CPU than Diva makes me think Acustica is about 95% API, 5% sample replayer code. Badly coded, whatever. Avoid.

I think it's easy to forget that there are real people behind the software we use. Developer's make mistakes just like anyone else but I wouldn't dehumanize someone for trying to mitigate piracy just to protect their investment, even if his approach about it is all wrong. Regardless, we wouldn't have software to use without developers so at the very least I think we can all agree they deserve some appreciation and respect.

 

We don't talk about all the software developers here, only one company. Whose CEO certainly doesn't consider himself a lowly human. He's in fact irritated he's forced to interact with these little filthy beings and show his "good face".
If he wants to be treated as a human, he should bloody act the part. Right now he acts like something we humans better gang up on in order to ensure our survival as a species.

Not sure that this applies @aymat (dehumanise? wtf) but the more you find out about "Giancarlo", the less you respect him as a man and developer. He has tried to drag his child into discussions about piracy for sympathy, forgetting that his business model is founded on piracy. He has cancelled contracts with customers, after informing customers that "all digital sales are final" because crying. And now this charming newsletter? Sorry, my guy, but it's a one-strike world for devs, and this is strike 3. Thousand.

 

EDIT Nevermind, I pulled the eyes out of wherever they were and see I was wrong. I saw things that just aren't there.
No idea how that happened. My opinion on Acustica and Del Merde Sordo still stands.

People become brave and violent when in groups especially.

Giancarlo never threatened people with jail or lawsuits, like some developers he is just trying to protect his business.
If it gets cracked, well, nothing he can do about it.

Acustica plugins does not sound "bad" at all. They brought a more pleasing vibe when the modeling plugin offer was struggling doing it some years ago. Nowadays yeah some really good stuff is out and their dynamic convolution does not makes a difference enough great to justify, to my sense, lack of ease of use, sound "staticity", and price...
But the tech is far from nonsense, IK Tapes are using a blend of dynamic convolution and dsp modelling, and, it's not bad at all !

 

The man is very stressed and needs a vacation and distance from the whole thing. Read what he writes for yourself.

In Spanish/Italiano, Sordo = Deaf.. so it's literally Giancarlo of the Deaf.
