Cubase is moving to a new licensing system and it seems that is going to be a online activation job. Sign into your account and then you can use Cubase.

I don't want to be a part of this...I am done with Cubase...

This will cause so many issues for users who have no internet access.

And also, does it have to be connected constantly to the internet for Cubase to work..like Nexus?

If so, what if someone is on the train and wants to work on a project?

This is something that I don't want to be a part of so I am definitely selling my license. It is a full Cubase 11 Pro USB license, so if you're interested in purchasing please get in touch with me and make me an offer.

One owner from new and bought directly from Steinberg

    Read this: https://www.steinberg.net/licensing/

You connect once, then you don't have to connect for a month. Plus, they're already working on a system to let you check out a license for a year. You can even use another computer to check the license out, then stay offline for a whole year.

Given that you're posting here, it's safe to assume you access the internet by some means at least once a year, so this isn't the big deal you think it is.

I never said I hadn't got internet access. I was talking about other people who may not have internet access. I just don't like their new way of licensing so I am selling my license.

You realise they're not doing away with the old system, right? You can still use your usb elicenser exactly as you are now, for the foreseeable future. Quote from Steinberg on the forums: "We are not going to shut down the eLicenser server any time soon. Maybe that announcement from ReFX caused some confusion. Of course there is going to be a decent period for the transition."

How many people do you think use Cubase who have absolutely no internet access, really?

Also, this: "We expect to introduce the ability to activate a license offline as soon as we can after the initial launch." Meaning for those people who literally don't have any internet access on any device (or like to live in a big tinfoil-lined box), they got you covered.

Seriously, read the FAQ's and the Steinberg forums before you fully panic over basically nothing.

I get you. But why sell? Is Cubase 11 not working ok? It has all the features you will ever need, nothing new is being added with the updates.

do you think, the steinbergs will package their new cubase in nice shiny boxes, with some dozens dvds in them? for the billions of customers without internet? maybe with a printed manual, for those poor souls without a pdf reader?

I know that I can keep using the dongle for the foreseeable future, I just want it gone.

Ah so the truth comes out. Apparently your issue is with Cubase itself. That's a different matter entirely.
Enjoy your new DAW. I left Cubase myself for Studio One simply because I like it's workflow better.

Why even start a thread if you already made up your mind about selling Cubase?
Just sell it and move on already..........................!

So a more accurate thread title would have been “I’m going to sell Cubase because indeterminate reasons, and just wanted to let you all know” since all this license chat, as you’ve confirmed for us, is essentially irrelevant to this particular conversation ;)

I still struggle to see how the new licensing actually changes anything for the worse given you get to keep your C11 licence on a dongle, and if you upgrade then you get another license for another machine too. I know people slag off Steiny, but I really cannot see the fuss people are having with this in the slightest. They will give you a method of offline authorisation as well after the initial roll out. From what I can see, it’s pretty much win win for all concerned. I mean, let’s be honest here, they want to protect their software from those nasty pirates, the dongle has been the most successful that I can remember, but people moan it’s a pain, so they change it and people still moan. I mean, if someone is going to moan about no internet, yet they can buy a £500 program, come on…

Out of interest, what method would you have preferred??

My understanding is that Avid and Steinberg are both going full subscription models, be interesting to see how that works out for them, people are already fed up with their DRM crap, they both should concentrate on their bloated products and less on anti piracy measures, I think the future of digital audio recording will move to less buggy DAW's like Reaper, it has a massive following and community support system that no other company can rival at this point, me being a Pro Tools guy, I have to say Reaper is already leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in terms of stability, features, and updates, not to mention the ability to practically make it anything you want it to be.....IMHO

Look fellas. Its not like he hurt anyone venting a bit. I kinda feel the same way about it. (I legit own Cubase Pro 11 & Nuendo 11). I understand the days of having DAW machines 100% offline are pretty much over. But I prefer to not be forced to shake the hand of someone I DID business with every month. They say one thing now, but ultimately this road leads to some form of subscription model. The profit it too tempting for a corporate company like Steinberg....

So Cubase joins Roland, Reason, AVID and other developers for a subscription online model. Yet on the sister site how groups defeat or circumvent those measures.

    Just watch the drama unfold.

Your understanding is incorrect. Taken from the official FAQ:

"We know that many of our existing customers are concerned that Steinberg may switch to a subscription pricing model for our products. Please be reassured that whatever options for buying Steinberg software products may be offered in future, we have no plans to withdraw the option to buy and use our existing software products under a perpetual license, just as we always have."

Which wouldn't, in real terms, really be much different to paying a lump sum for a yearly update anyway, which we already do. But see above.

Sell your license and grab Studio One. Superior in many ways.
