It's usually more for fixing "recorded" mistakes. not "recording" mistakes. like an off pitch singer, or player. and with cleaner results than you can usually get with the stretching algorithms in most daws.

a lot of the "dance" effects on vocals are from the exact opposite effects caused by using an old sampler. I tend to think it can be a bit late by then to use Melodyne on a sample, chances are they will be fx'd and even more difficult to fix. ;/

I only use the standalone app for finding pitch information on drum samples (with the latest percussive pitched algorithm). Although I sometimes also use one of the melodic/polyphonic algo's when recreating a melody from a single synth loop.

if a terrible singer came to my place and record their voices ... i'd rather not to accept that kind of singer anymore :( still a tedious job if they are really really terrible (fatal sense of rhythmic and tone)

and sometimes i used it to a transcription job :) throw it to music notation app later and voila!

i am using it since... wow, that is 21 years, can you believe that... and i am mostly interested in...

    1. manually drawing intonation lines
    2. exaggerating intonation lines
    3. manually applying drastic changes of the formant filter

what i wish it could do: i would love to have programmatic control over everything, for example use envelopes and sequencers to perform modulations, or having it running as max/msp object.

is the formant filter same as the formal tool? i googled a video and it was being referred as formal tool, its the same thing?

    thanks!

it's great for extracting midi notes from melodies to accompany them in your track with a different instrument

To overcorrect Emma Watson, Will Smith or any vocal production nowadays (even opera), with a super robotic feel that people don't seem to be bothered with, which drives me crazy.
It sounds so unnatural and yet everybody digs it, it's even worse than autotune's golden era.

Melodyne. Melodyne everywhere. Help me. Oh god, help me.

To editing vocals, even if they're great singers there are some genres like pop when the vocals need to be perfectly on pitch to be cohesive with all the modern synth instruments and sound closer to the reference the artist gave you.

Also polyphonic algorithm is nice for trying out new chords without having to re-record the guitar every time

This is the most innovative plugin in recent years: any average singer suddenly becomes a superstar with it. Unlike Autotune, Melodyne has no side effects (the "trap voice" effect) so the processed voice will have a much more natural sound with it.
Of course it can also be used on other types of instruments, not just vocals. Its magic is when applied to polyphonic inputs - truly impressive.
I don't know how I could live without it

It's almost the same as the following reply:

You can import wav files and extract midi from it. The more sounds already included, the more difficult it will be. That's why I mentioned an easier example. Like synth loops from sample packs (for recreating, inspiration and tweaking). Chords for polyphony and single notes for melodic. Melodyne shows the notes in its grid so if you've troubles recreating an excisting melody, this would be a helpful tool. Or if you're just lazy :bleh:

the "tool" is the cursor and the function of the cursor. yes that´s the same.

you can control formant correction and pitch independent from each other and that leave a lot of room for abuse.
