I have no thoughts of winning in the slightest, I don’t think what I have done will be good enough, but it was an excellent learning experience, got me to work in a far more structured way, and I will definitely be doing more for my own growth as a musician.

Why should you let other people decide how good or bad you are? If you have failure it quickly goes in the direction of I'm not enough and that leads to frustration.

Some musicians were so talented as young people that they thought O.K there was a need for my music, I found a company and do it myself, if it works it's good, if not I have to earn my living with something else.

The motivation to make music shouldn't be money either. If I can do something it is good and if I can make money with it, it is good. For some it is enough just to play music and be happy with it. For some, competitions are a reason to learn a little more and work a little more. But you shouldn't burn yourself out.

I guess it’s not about deciding that for me, it’s more about creating something I never normally would do and then putting the results out there, and getting feedback from people that are unbiased so I can develop myself, be it a wrong chord, how to approach an element or a a technical aspect I could improve. The only thing I really do in terms of “creating” is my meditation stuff and some rough doodles of other styles. This forced me to finish something, as does the meditation stuff. I gig live several times a month, but my creativity has not really been able to be let out. I can’t write “songs”, so what I do helps.

As the saying goes, the journey is the goal. Creating something is a meaningful purpose in life. And if you are that good, it will also be a long-playing record or CD ROM, or live performances. Congratulations for performing in front of people. You are a bearer of culture.

Everyone can do something good or less good. One should refer to one's strengths. Because the strengths are what you can do best and what you should promote. Everyone often gets to the point where they think they have to learn something or do something differently. The practice is then "trial and error", something drives you ...! Sometimes you end up in a dead end and then let it go quickly. Of course you can also look for other musicians with whom you can develop something.

I can't do everything either ... Nobody is perfect ... I wish you all the best and let me hear from you again.

    A beautiful motto in life.

I sometimes do sound collages just for personal use.

Hurricane Sandy was a tropical cyclone of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season that severely affected portions of the Caribbean, Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States in late October, with lesser effects in the Southeastern and Midwestern states and eastern Canada. In diameter, it was the largest Atlantic hurricane on record, with winds spanning 1,100 miles (1,800 km). The eighteenth tropical cyclone and named storm and tenth hurricane of the season, Sandy is estimated in early calculations to have caused damage of at least $20 billion (2012 USD) Preliminary estimates of losses that include business interruption surpass $50 billion (2012 USD), which, if confirmed, would make it the second-costliest Atlantic hurricane in history, behind only Hurricane Katrina.

Japan Earthquake 2011: 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits, 30-Foot Tsunami Triggered

TOKYO A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded slammed Japan's eastern coast Friday, killing hundreds of people as it swept away boats, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control.

Hours later, the tsunami hit Hawaii and warnings blanketed the Pacific, putting areas on alert as far away as South America, Canada, Alaska and the entire U.S. West Coast. In Japan, the area around a nuclear power plant in the northeast was evacuated after the reactor's cooling system failed.

Reuters reports: The risk of radiation contamination from Japan's damaged nuclear power stations has sparked food bans across the globe and more surprisingly, a buying frenzy from South Korean mothers who fear their favorite Japanese-made diapers may suddenly become unavailable.

I think as long as you are creating, that is all that matters, something that gets your juices flowing.

I finally got my bands first album online and started dicking about adding orchestral elements to it, kind of like Michael Kamen and Metallica / Bryan Adams. This is the original and my orchestration version (very rough mix)

It comes down to two things. If the competition has no insider trading/nepotism and if the judges/directors like what you have done. It has nothing to do with skills and everything to do with what they think is appropriate for the film. :)

Obviously I will be happy if I get anywhere with it, but honestly I did it for the process and learning and it’s been worth it just for that (I have template now! Hahahahaha).

    Thank you, nice sentence.

Many bands got together for the fun of music and they didn’t work together to get rich and famous. If you are very talented and make extraordinary music, it automatically turns into a CD, tour, or television appearance.

It's different to be under contract and put a CD on the market every year, on the terms of the music industry. Only what brings money is funded. You'd better set up your own label or market your sound yourself. Form cooperatives, make yourself independent and look for like-minded people.

There are many people who spend all day every day on the Internet to market their music. The consequence is you are frustrated and it kills your creativity. On the other hand, small live appearances are the best thing you can do. Direct contact with people, fun and motivation to keep going and developing. The whole world has access to the Internet and everyone uploads something, the products reach an unprecedented level Number. The competition gets bigger with every musician.

You can also get in touch with young filmmakers and work with them; you can offer to do the film music. Say you are a beginner and want to try it out. There are also street festivals, graffiti artists and art exhibitions.

I wish I had more time to indulge the creative side, I would LOVE to write orchestral parts for other musicians, and I would love to score your indie filmmakers. Not arsed about the money from that, I do okay with my main job, and maybe the meditation music might start bringing some in, but again, not really a dealbreaker if not, I enjoy doing it. I’m lucky enough to have a job that affords me the money to indulge my hobby with some nice gear and I get to rip solos in a cover band (again, not exactly megabucks for that!). Of course I would love music to be my career, but whilst I wait until my 70’s to make it like Seasick Steve, this I am doing now brings great pleasure, learning, and who knows, in 5 years I may have a Spitfire Audio library range in my name (makes sure not to hold breath!!).

A nice story - I think it's great that you can find out how others handle it.

Here in Germany, a lot of people retire at the age of 67 or earlier if they have previous illnesses. Many retirees then do what they always wanted to do, world travel or full-time musicians. A band here went on tour during your vacation time. The money they earned was enough to buy gasoline and food for the car and the LP they sold to pay for the loans for their equipment.

I am a friend of demo - promotion CDs and alternative audio magazines. I used to take band photos myself and also had a black and white laboratory at home. either for the bands or for fanzines. As an honorary worker, I once ran a photo group in the social field. then wanted to become a photographer, unfortunately I wasn't qualified enough to make a living from it. Then came digitization and black photography came to an end.

I started making presets in 2010 and thought maybe I'll become famous one day and make a living from it. Here is my website:
    Sonic Sirius - Synthesizer Soundsets
Freeware Soundsets for Software and Hardware Synthesizer http://ohlenbostelhelge.magix.net/public/

As an autodidact, I taught myself everything. So read and practice, read and practice and you will get better with time and then at some point you will see through how something works. I have to read and understand the manual for some synths. So the brain is challenged but not overwhelmed.

A software manufacturer came up to me and said make 200 presets and we will split the profit 50/50, another manufacturer offered 2 euros for a preset. On average, you can create 1 preset in 30 minutes, or 2 hours for complicated presets. So the time you invest is disproportionate to the time you spend. And in the evening when you have done your job you are so overheard that you just want to have some peace and quiet. The fingers then also hurt. I've been making presets that I like for 11 years now. And of course I think it's great when others download it and play it.

I then decided not to go through this stress and to sell my presets myself for free, my website and the data host are free. I have more than 1 million user downloads. I also made a CD with sound collages that I give away privately. I am satisfied the way it is. But as a young person I could never have imagined it that way.

No, I didn’t. Does anyone else agree? I don’t mean that in an argumentative way, I am just interest if others agree. It has a suspension then to a 7th so there is an element of resolution, but doesn’t fully close out the progression and then the additional instruments add development.

Well, made the shortlist anyway, so even if I go no further, that’s good recognition to me for my first attempt.

Is such a body really objective in a competition? Why does it take part? What happens when you reach the last place in your head? Do you then no longer feel like a good musician and then have self-doubts? I would not put my life in the judgment of others. Make your own music, be proud of it and offer it to people, there are only two options, people like it or not.

I think that for me it’s more that I have no real feedback of what I have been doing with the composition side of things yet, and at least getting this far let’s me know I am not kidding myself about what I think works. It’s not something that will alter what I create, more reassure myself that what I think works, others agree.
