at first, January/February is a good time to buy hardware (second best time after October) because you can get previous generation hardware for nice discounts,

that said, for any audio work you still need fastest cpu (singlecore performance) you can afford, no matter how many cores it has - sure if you go batshit crazy with hundreds of tracks, you run out of power, but in that case you should learn howto freeze/bounce/render tracks in your DAW in order to save cpu resources,

I won't go into Apple Silicon blabber, but one thing I can honestly tell after using M1 MacMini for months is: SILENCE - you want that, especially when working with audio, it's a very underestimated feature you want your PC workstation build upon,

means you want a moderately powerful CPU which doesn't heat that much, cool it with biggest air cooler you can find (some 140cm Noctua without a doubt)) and fit in your case, for which you need a big case of course (170cm clearance for cpu cooler),

and no matter what graphics card you want but need to make sure it operates without fans spinning unless reaching certain temperature threshold (for example my 1080 Ti Strix makes zero noise below 60°C),

speaking of ram - I can certainly say 32GB ram is what you need, no less, and in terms of future expansion, it's better to get 2x16GB kit instead of 4x8GB,

and for storage, with nowadays prices being reasonable, I would definitely go for an all-SSD build, one 1TB decent NVME for OS+programs, and another cheap 1TB SATA SSD for projects/libraries (or more if you need so),

if you prefer AMD, then 5800X will do fine, motherboard choice is mostly personal preference - I like ASUS for their ability to easily control non-pwm fans by voltage, so even cheapest case fans can be controlled from BIOS

 

Don't agree with this at all. I have 3970x and I love how little I have to worry about bouncing and freezing tracks. For example, I have a project with around 90 tracks (with multiple instances of soothe2, Gullfoss and some other basic plugins) and it's not even to close to its limits. I remember when I had my previous computer how I just wanted to make music, and all that bouncing and freezing kind of always killed my flow.

241W of power? Well then I would suggest OP to also get a upgrade of his energy plan too. And a high end cooler as well since it basically runs at 20*C idle

 

This is partly true because in order for those gains you also need the top of the line (or close) additional specs such as :

• A Case with good air intake & exhaust (even for the i5).
• A large well designed air cooler (be certain that the cooler will mount properly even if it is LGA 1700 design) or
• A minimum 240mm/280mm well designed AIO with normal thickness & optimized fans.
• A Z690 workstation/creator motherboard (very few available at launch date). Review boards are gaming & overclocking models.
• Updated BIOS for motherboard
• DD5 memory (very scarce & expansive as of launch date).
• PCIe 4.0 devices for the 5.0 slots at minimum. PCIe 5.0 devices (which are currently non-existent as of launch date).
• 850W power supply (preferably Platinum rated) as minimum. CPU can draw 300+ watts continuous under heavy work load.
• Windows 11 Pro or Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

 

Not really the case, I work in PC Repair Shop, SSD`s can`t match HDD`s in lifetime from my experience in all these years working there.
Hell I am still actively using Hitachi`s 500GB HDD from 2005 to this day.

while the newer bigger ones use super dense multyplatter designs
all drives have more problems now than before

PL1 аnd PL2 аrе cаppеd аt 190W. This CPU cаnnоt drаw 300W оr mоrе. Withоut аn аdditiоnаl grаphics cаrd, а 400W PSU is sufficiеnt. Alsо, yоu dоn't nееd аn updаtеd Biоs оr Windоws 11. As оf tоdаy, аll Sоckеt 1700 mоthеrbоаrds suppоrt аll Sоckеt 1700 CPUs. It wоrks with Windоws 10 аnd mаny оthеr оpеrаting systеms аs wеll. Yеs, likе I аlrеаdy sаid, thе plаtfоrm is nоt yеt widеly аvаilаblе, but this thrеаd is аbоut buying in Jаnuаry, nоt nоw.

lol 850W power supply... 300w is bs.... 230w rendering, normal use like in daw with high cpu usage 120w ergo 400-500w PSU is plenty without gpu.... 650+ fine with gpu

and PLATINUM minimum wtf why? you dont even need bronze.... 600w no medal vs 600w ULTRA PLATINUM your pc doesn't care 600w are still 600w for it

What exactly? The power limits? You can find them in basically every review or as "Maximum Turbo Power" in Intel's ARK database.



The limit can be redefined in the UEFI on many motherboards, but that would be overclocking.

 

we all know what intel write and what's actually happening are two different things.
that's why i would suggest waiting for some more metrics to come out of
independent reviews, and before throwing those numbers around, at least i wouldn't

Maybe it's a bit overkill at the moment, but I believe that 64gb of RAM in 5 years will be something like 16 now and I don't want to buy new computers every now and then

 

Under normal circumstances and the world is DEFINITELY not living in those times, I would say wait until the shortage of GPU chipsets is over and you can get a kickass machine for that.
Until the shipping, importing and exporting regains a semblance of normalcy, the costs are higher now vs inflation than ever.
Theoretically, for that money, anyone should be able to get a grunty machine but not lately.
If you can wait, I'd wait. If you cannot, I do not wish to recommend anything to anyone.
My GPU is selling for double what I paid for it as a new card, and as a second hand item on ebay. So I won't recommend anything because that is wrong on so many counts.

 

2000 euros is more than enough for this type of production needs.
