If you gonna build something new:

    Windows 11
    Gigabyte Z690 AERO D (2x native thunderbolt 4)
Intel Core i9-12900K (cheaper and better than anything AMD has on the marked as of today)
Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler (with 1700 socket kit)
    Corsair VENGEANCE 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 DRAM 5200MHz C38 Memory Kit
Fractal Design Define 7 Mid Tower (without glass)
    Corsair RM1000x 1000W power supply
Graphic card that you can afford. I prefer Nvidia

    Edit:
I did not see that you prefer AMD, my advice is still Intel :)

Brutal Power usage, 250watt and up.
double the prices for some parts
    for maybe 5-10% more performance
+ serous scheduling issues that need to ironed out on the only supported OS, win11

That´s a pretty Bold Advice for a thing you don't even know, don't you think?

nahh someone has to be the first. I'm pretty sure the system I recommended would be very good from day one.....or after bios update version 3:rofl:
No question Intel (which is 12 gen) gonna iron out all problems in a much shorter time than any new AMD product.

I'd say 32gb would be more than needed for normal use. Kontakt libraries for example can take a huge amount of space from you RAM.

If you need real-world comparisons, take a look at the review from Puget Systems:
    https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/12th-Gen-Intel-Core-CPU-Review-Roundup-2248/

With many applications, even the smaller i7-12700K performs better than any Ryzen for almost half the price. Plus, like I already mentioned, you don't need an additional GPU. The IGP is faster than the old entry-level cards that are somewhat affordable today, supports newer video codecs for both hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding, and allows you to use modern interfaces (i.e. DisplayPort) with high resolutions/high refresh rates for current displays. DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 are future-proofed.
The platform is not yet widely available, but certainly will be by January. Of course it would be a good idea to choose the components by the time when you are ready to buy. Many things can change until then.

that's why i wrote nothing about chip prices
motherboards and gen5 ram cost double + energy consumption up to & over 250 watts
and then not to forget Zen 4 is on its way which should be a bigger bump once more

"any Ryzen for almost half the price"
where are you getting those prices from? 12700k vs 5900x 490 -550 average:dunno:

anyway, i don't think jumping into a brand new architecture is wise
i want to make music on a stable system. And the last 10 or 20% even
are far away from my current Zen3 CPU Utilization, wich sits @ 30-40% max:disco:

Any Ryzen really means any Ryzen in this case, so the 5950X ($799) too.

It was not meant as an advice on your situation (whatever it might be). If you don't need a new system, then of course there's nothing to do. :dunno:

don´t want to be pedantic but
what i meant was, never even reached the upper limits of zen3
so 10 or more % doesn't sound so inviting to beta test a not
    established newer system!
even sandybridge needed a few microcode updates (back then)
not even thinking of scheduler OS optimisation like in win11 now.

    that´s all.
But i truly Hope Intel Keeps up the Pressure
That is the best outcome for us:shalom:

If you don`t plan on doing any gaming, only music production, then invest heavily in new CPU, no point spending much money on GPU then, and I would recommend AMD over Intel (I was an Intel fan for years, but AMD is much better and more efficient now).
As for OS, since you are already making a change, then IMO you should jump on Win 11 also, everything is compatible, work flawlessly, a bit faster than Win 10 - at least for me lol, sooner or later you will be forced to update anyway, so do it all at once.

Friendly advice when it comes to storage, you should buy an HDD and use it as a backup for important project files and stuff.
Even though SSD`s are better in general, but they come with much less lifetime, not to mention even though they might show you they are healthy, they can stop at any time.
I`ve seen many of them stop, from various brands.

2-3 Months are a long time in CPU development

    Ryzen 9 5950XT
or even 6000 can start (Leaks says 1 Quad 2022)

and we have Intels new Hybrid (Little Big ) which we all don't know how good all DAW will handle

I can totally understand all Intel- Fans the new Benchmarks are impressive but the Power consume and the TDP are a bit scary

    Now to the Parts
(with the aspect of best now upgrade when GPU Prices are normal again later )

    https://geizhals.de/asrock-x570m-pro4-90-mxbas0-a0uayz-a2089826.html?hloc=at&hloc=de
    172,57€
It´s the cheapest µATX (needed for the Case) with 4 RAM lanes and x570 chipset

    https://geizhals.de/amd-ryzen-7-5700g-100-000000263-a2527687.html?hloc=at&hloc=de
    359,00
(Because of the high prices of GPU , this is a compromise with integrated GPU
when the GPU prices become normal again an Upgrade to X5900 will possible but only when you see that your projects have often loads above 80%)
    CPU benchmark of 24786
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+7+5700G&id=4323 and a lower TDP of 65 Watt

    https://geizhals.de/g-skill-aegis-dimm-16gb-f4-2133c15s-16gis-a1379154.html?hloc=at&hloc=de
    49,44 €* 2 or 4
Personal I would say start with 32 Gb and If you see that your Projects often hits the top upgrade to 64GB

    https://geizhals.de/be-quiet-system-power-b9-600w-atx-2-4-bn209-a1765477.html?hloc=at&hloc=de
    43,00€
A 400 Watt PSU would also work in this setup
(with the Upgrade to X5900 and a GPU 600 watt is the better choise)

    https://geizhals.de/be-quiet-pure-rock-slim-2-bk030-a2487956.html?hloc=at&hloc=de
    21,47€

    also your Parts

500 GB Samsung SSD 840 Evo Series 2.5"
Samples and Libraries on a separate SSD
    Fractal Arc Mini R2

Both are ATX and wouldn't fit in his case :
No there is never a too much in CPU Power
The Downsides are always power consumtion and Noise caused by cooling (high TDP)

Take me to a place where you can build such a system for 2000€ max ?
    i9 12900k is 1400€ itself ...

The RAM was Image Line's specs. Some daws like FL don't really use RAM that much unless with the heavy use of Kontakt style samplers (they use the hard disk more). Even with my laptop that has 8GB (i use it for mobile style production from time to time) I can load up a decent amount of Kontakt but Omnipshere not really that much. I guess it depends what you use. I would also say 16GB is a good place to be too.

While I do understand that going Apple will have some of its challenges, it still is the hands down the most powerful thing to get for the money. The single core performance of the new Apple M1 Pro's beat the latest and greatest i9's without suffering from fan noise.

It depends on what you use when making music/mixing. 16GB is a good spot to be (slightly future proof). 32GB however is actual overkill unless you are a very very heavy user of Kontakt style plugins (like from 25+ instances)

    but 699€....

    https://www.alternate.de/Intel/Core-i9-12900K-Prozessor/html/product/1778368

    wouldn't even be 2k imho

    https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/W9BD68

    €1641.58....

    12900k
    32GB DDR5
    980 1TB

add GPU if wanted but only for music you are fine with onboard

thats pretty much the best system possible as for major components for DAW use right now

usually SSDs last about double the time as HDDs with normal use

Hi, AMD or Intel it's the same, buy without hesitation the last generation of one or the other, I am Intel 9.......k, it's stable, powerful!
The RAM, minimum 16 gig if your budget allows it 32 gig!
The latest generation motherboard without spending a fortune, if you use your machine only for music.....
The rest is a lot of good advice on the thread and on the site!
to me, one very important thing, the installation of Win10, give yourself the trouble to optimize it, it's worth it! i followed a lot of advice from the members and used the recommended scripts and software, my machine never crashed and in 7 seconds it's ready to go!
And no internet.... and no 30.000 plugins installed! just what you need and love!
    Have a nice music time!
