Is this the end for Presonus?

Fender has bastardized/ruined companies & brands for 40+ years with their corporate bulldozer. Is Presonus the latest nail that the Fender hammer sees? Only time will tell.

An analogue from the 3D world is Autodesk. If you can't be better than the competition, buy them out and destroy their products (e.g. Softimage XSI)

Go Bitwig if you are a Producer/Sound Designer, if you are into mixing only, go Reaper. Having both Reaper & Bitwig studio is the most powerful combination.

presonus/kristal labs unveiled S1 on 4/1/09 i wonder what matthias got for it back then, and what fender paid for it now. i remember thinking these new guys at presonus were going to mess it up

 

i see your point but not a fair comparison, i used to own legit cakewalk and it was messed up from the ground up. you couldnt break it more than it was. but S1 is being handed off in excellent condition

My god, XSI was my favorite 3D design tool at the time. Autodesk killing it was almost traumatizing. I remember they promised to keep developing it, but after a while they made it hard to find on their website, promoting only 3DS Max and Maya. At that point it was pretty clear what was going to happen...

Anyway, I don't think the same will happen with Fender/Presonus: Fender does not have a DAW (or interfaces, or monitors, as far as I know). It would be silly to kill it then wouldn't it? Especially with Studio One's increasing user base.

Agree, it would be silly.
But when essentially peacounters make decisions, crazy things can happen. Wait and see.

 

It's usually on the hardware side of things that Fender, usually screws the pooch. Sure they will find a way to screw Presonus, and us.
Maybe by forcing a subscription only model for software and making hardware as least expensively (cheaply), as possible. This has been the Fender way.
