So, I wanted to break the matrix and see if there could be a sadder saddest.
    SADLY enough, I found it...
Sadder of the saddest - C# min
Sadder of the sadder of the saddest - C min

Now my soul is disintegrated. Over and out.

Seriously, that is a parody movie (This Is Spinal Tap), beside that any sad song in any scale could enter the category "sads songs".

Hey! We have a glitch here! --- Sad Songs of Elton John is in C MAJOR!!! ---
    I... I... I... can't... Does not compute...

    Just kidding, of course.

Compare Key of Cmajor to its relative minor Aminor

    Tonic / Subdominant/ Dominant/ tonic

    C major

    C6 / Dmin7/ G7/ C6

    A minor

    Amin6/ Bmin7b5 / E7b9 / Amin6

The minor a lot more dark .

( even though they are more the same than different

It's like the saying of the difference between knowledge and wisdom.
You cannot have wisdom without the knowledge first. The wisdom takes much longer because it's not just about knowing what to do, it is also knowing when to do it, when not to do it and what not to do. The wisdom aspect is never-ending as sure as the gaining of new knowledge is.

    Right knowledge or wrong knowledge?

Do they both end in wisdom?:)

You probably need to re-read it because the answer is already in there in the last four words.

I must have Composed/Produced around +50 tracks in the last 10 years,
of them +40 are Orchestral tracks..

None of them was purely in Major tonality.. lol

Only once I tried, but the G Major tonality only lasts about 8 Bars in the progression,
then I modulate to D minor, and later on I resolve with G Mixolydian.. (pro trick right there )

Don't ask me why but I never liked playin/working with the Major scale,
it's kind of Bland, tacky/self-evident but also kinda undefined.. and for some reason it doesn't come out from me,
although I can like/appreciate other ppl's music music in major tonalities..

But if I have to get a "major" sound I normally do Mixolydian or Lydian instead,
as they have much more Color/Character which I really enjoy..

Not that they are interchangeable ofc, but that's what comes out

Otoh, I once met this strange/silly boy..

Spanish guy who plays one of those Godin nylon guitars with no hole, and is seemingly a Country expert..
    Comes and tells me: :hillbilly:
"I only play Major tonality, because all other stuff is Dark/Dissonant".. lol

    Good!
Then forget about the other 6 modes of Major scale,
the 7 Modes of Harmonic/Melodic minor and Harmonic Major, Major Locrian.. (and that's 34 already)

Diminished and Whole-tone scales, Neapolitan Scale, Chromatic, Bebop Scales, Enigmatic...
    and almost Everything else..?

Because other than the Major scale, and some Penatonic scales,
every other scale is gonna have an Alteration of some kind, a Sharp or a Flat.. and thus added Tension/Darkness

So good luck negating/ignoring 99,9% of Harmony!

    :wtf::deep_facepalm: :facepalm:
I have come to realise you do not have a reading issue it is comprehension you have a problem with.

I read what he stated. He is a talented young guy and what he spoke of had nothing to do with lack of knowledge and everything to do with personal preference. What he stated that was the crux or key point was "Don't ask me why but I never liked playin/working with the Major scale,"

This has nothing to do with @Ŧยχøя not wanting to work with it. He stated pretty much that he chooses to write a certain way because he does not like the sound of working with only the 1st mode of a major scale(Ionian), nothing else because the next important statement he makes validates that he knows what he likes by stating he can do it with "But if I have to get a "major" sound I normally do Mixolydian or Lydian ". That is what his personal tastes lean to and he actually explained why he felt that way. You do not have to agree with him but he's not wrong in his choices for HIS compositions. He will change over time as everyone does and he may even find Lydian annoying in 30 years....:rofl:At present this is how he feels and writes.

Agree or disagree with his choices as a personal preference by all means but it is not wrong.
In its simplest form there is only a Major scale and its modes and two minor scales and their modes and the harmonic minor is the only one that does not have a name for each mode and has numbers (1st mode of the harmonic minor, 2nd mode, 3rd mode etc...) . The modes were designed for several reasons. Words like Lydian which comes from an extinct Indo-European Anatolian language or the Roman numerals, define chord-to-scale relationships which if you knew them, you would know that is what he was drawing from.

Please learn to decipher and comprehend better.:trashing::trolls:

No I am not going into diminished, whole tone, hebrew, Japanese, Arabic or any other scale lol

    Neverr!!

Lydian was Love at first sight, infinite and perfect..
although later-on I developed a taste for Lydian b7, or even augmented..

Then lately I find I've been leaning more to b6s, like Mixo b6 or Harmonic Major.. (must be the age?)
I guess anything goes as long as it's not just.. plain Major  lol
(heck I'd rather go Sus, amibuity = fun )

    That's only one aspect tho,
I can certainly enjoy my minor tonalities..
Eolian, Dorian, Phryg (and ofc Dom), Harmonic minor, Melodic minor, Dorian #4, Aeolian b5..
all of them have a special place in my heart lol

Then I'm super addict to Diminished and whole tone,
Diminished is as handy as Salt or Pepper in (not Jazz) but Orchestral music too,
    specially in Epic/Battle type contexts..

And boy, although there's very rarely a right spot,
I can also love my SuperLocrian

Jazzists are fond of it, but even ppl like Steve Vai uses it

    Thinkin about it,
it's almost as if all minor scales fall inside the same spectrum of Color.. like say different/unique shades of Red-Brown..
Although some scales can be more fringe, like say Melodic Minor leaning a bit towards the jazz side..

However Major scales have a very distinct color in my mind,
    Lydian is Purple+Green,
Mixolydian is a Bluer and Yellow

Major is like White, quite colorless until the nat7,
like an odd nail saying "hit me" with that hammer, make me a tonic.. lol

Then Lydian Dom could be one of the most evocative,
also Green+Purple but with added tension and depth/drama, more psychological,
and a bit mystical like Mixo with that b7..

Then Mixo b6 is like a Happy thing that ends being Serious and moody like Eolian.. (also good for Xmas lol)
While Harmonic Major is a Happy thing that ends taking a trip to a distant Eastern country.. lol

There's more but you get the idea..
Maybe (in general) minor scales can feel like a more Gradual variation, while Major scales feel more Distinct?

There are a few hints that you are hearing a minor key.

Let's look at the key of C major CDEFGABC
The relative A natural minor ABCDEFGA
(Those share the same diatonic chords )
    The A harmonic minor ABCDEFG#A
    1.ACEG# Aminmaj
    2.BDFA Bmin7b5
    3.CEG#B Cmaj7#5
    4.DFAC Dmin7
    5.EG#BD E7
    6.FACE Fmaj7
    7.G#BDF G#dim7

    Then A melodic minor
    ABCDEF#G#

    1.ACEG# Aminmaj ( ACEF# ) Amin6
    2.BDF#A Bmin7
    3.CEG#B Cmaj7#5
    4.DF#AC D7
    5.EG#BD E7
    6.F#ACE F#min7b5
    7.G#BDF# G#min7b5

So this really maps out the basics of that relationship of C major and A relative minor .
