Why is there this need on both Sites to
This sense of Entitlement of Moral Superiority.
    Virtue Signal/White Knighting
    by writing
    "I don't use Warez"
    "Support the Developer and Buy"
    "I am Legit user now"
    "Support the Small Developer"
    "Developer Deserves Your Money"

No, Nobody in Life is Deserving of anything.
Nobody Really Acutally Cares If you Bought Plugins.
Developers will always Cry about Warez.
Developers are Greedy with the Code most of them did Not Write but just copy/paste from Existing DSP Code.
Most of the DSP Math already published years ago.
    Nothing really new.

Keep Your Virtue Signalling/Feeling Morally Superior to Yourself or Write it down and Frame it on your Bedroom Wall but Keep it to Yourself.

There is Absolutely No "Small time Developer"
Everyone with a Website on the Internet has access to Billions of potential buyers.

    As for Plugins and Developers
Anti-Aliasing/Oversampling should be Standard on All Plugins.

Devs release Alpha version of a plugin
    Full of Bugs and
    Lacking basic features like
    1) AA
    2)view size
    3)Dry/Wet
    4) In/Out

Dev then release Beta version of plugin
Adding all the "Features" that should be common standard DSP coding
    Charging a V2.0 price

They All Deserve to be Cracked.

Companies hire "consultants" all the time, but they also do burn legitimate security researchers/bug hunters. There is actually a case of someone going to prison over this in the very recent news; and of course you have the other end of it which is Extortion. See Michael Avenatti story this week to see how that plays. Anything "Greyhat" can be sketchy as hell.

Based on that yes. I have unique plugins here and there from different manufacturers and not all waves, so for me and perhaps maybe some others as well, if they were all on subscription I would be looking at 200-400 per month. That would be fine if I was making $400 per day, but those days are long gone.

And that’s why subscription only models are a bad thing, where you HAVE to essentially pay for things that you have no use for, for the ones that have a wide range of quality plugins, I do see the benefits.

the days of making that much a day from music never started for me

I got a real life story I know personally happened from some people in the music industry - a certain software manufacturer I won't name, hired former intelligence agents that moved to the private sector from a country I can't name on here, to masquerade as 'musicians' and go to large studios to see if they had any cracked versions of their software. No shit. I would love to tell this story but I know it would get deleted as quick as Joe Biden forgets what he read on his teleprompter. This story once got published a long time ago first on Gearslutz, and got taken down off multiple forums..
