    Hi all,

I made this today because I, like many who struggled with guitar, learned piano first. This clears up the confusion about what notes are where and which notes are duplicate on different strings (unless you're color blind, sorry mate).

Not gonna lie, it was tedious to make this & I found myself endlessly correcting errors in it, so if something looks wack let me know & I'll update it. guitar reference-03.png

Hello @2spuki, here's a link to the package of charts that I made for myself a few years back. I made it with my 7 guitar-string guitar in mind, but you might find it useful anyway :)

    https://www96.zippyshare.com/v/W12dtTGd/file.html

If you want to make some charts of your own, I recommend this website: https://www.guitarscientist.com/generator/
That's what I used, along with... Microsoft Excel, lol :D

The only request I have is: if you find any mistakes in my files, let me know :)

Here are examples of charts that you can find inside:

The way I think about these things is with a
    " master chart "

Then just draw on it to create a specific example.

So let's say its the key of C major

The tonic function and the voicing

    Is Cmajor6 ( C6 ) in drop 2 on highest 4 set of strings

WOWEE thanks @Ak3mi91 & @MMJ2017 for those additions! I might have to make a few more charts for our pals with different tunings!

    If its okay ,

I'd like to share with you a few things about
Guitar that can give you quite a headstart.

Every instrument has strengths and weaknesses .
Certain aspects which work very well compared to other instruments, and other aspects which are more difficult than other instruments.

For instance the greatest strength of piano and keyboard layout, is the notes are " automatic".
Meaning, the ability to know where the notes are is just right there and easy .

The guitar does not have this strength .
But it has its own .

For instance , on piano all your notes are right there for you BUT , playing in different keys isn't automatic. ( you have to take time to learn each key on piano)

On Guitar, the notes are not automatic.
It could be the greatest weakness of the instrument.

( the amount of effort it takes to learn the name of each fretted note played )

However, the amazing thing about guitar is how movable everything is .

    Let's take a particular [ Chord Voicing ]
    Called [ Minor7 ]

We will start with [ Amin7]

We get this shape on the guitar 4 notes in a line together on the highest set of 4 strings .

Amazingly , all we have to do is move this by wholesteps and we have

    Amin7
    Bmin7
    C#min7
    D#min7
    Fmin7
    Gmin7
    Amin7

If we next look at the [ Chord Voicing ]

    Called [ Diminished 7]

    And take Bdim7
    B,D,F,G#

On the Guitar this is " Automatic "

It is a Symmetrical form , meaning

All its notes are equally spaced intervals.

On the guitar , it means we have 4 inversions

    Of 1 shape .
    Bdim7 is also
    Ddim7
    Fdim7
    G#dim7

    ( A Diminished 7 is 4 Dominant chords.

    Bdim7

    is

    G7
    Bb7
    Db7
    E7

Now we can take our first

    [ Chord Voicing ]
    Aminor7 ( except we use it as C6 ( Cmaj6 )
    CEGA

Then we take our Bdim7 BDFG#
( except we use it as G7 )

Now , we have the KEY of C major

    [ Dominant/ Tonic]
    G7 / Cmajor6

Finally , we are going to take our

    [ G7 / Cmajor ]

And look at how we can simply move it in order to

Get the next Closest key center
    ( F major )

    [ C7/ Fmajor ]

    One last thing .

We chose particular [ Chord Voicings]
    For a reason .

C6 is Cmajor or it is Aminor

    Bdim7 is G7 or it is E7

What does this mean though ?

    G7 / Cmajor

    E7/ Aminor

    ( dominant/ tonic)

We chose a specific universal [ chord voicings)

So that we can play the major cadence or minor cadence of the relative major and minor
    with the same IDENTICAL voicings

    :)

For the major AND relative minor
