What up everybody!
As u can read in the description since i switched to Mavericks i'm having an high usage of cpu while working with Live..i thought that the problem would have been solved with Live 9.1 but i just installed it and the situation is still the same..
So i would like to know your opinions..and if any of you out there are having the same issues so that would mean that my Mac is still a bomb and that the problem is just with Live..and so i have to wait for a more stable and compatible version of Live for Mavericks.

Thanks for the heads up... haven't upgraded yet myself but I was planning to do it tonight. Did you install the 32 or 64 bit version of live?

I forgot to mention that I didn't have any CPU problems with earlier versions of Live 9 like you did. When do you get these problems exactly?

I didn't have any cpu problems with earlier versions of Live and of Osx..sincerely it is the first time that it happens..but now it is a constant..
The most problems come when i'm working on a track and playing it...in the most automated sections of the track the cpu reaches values between 85/95% while before it never went over the 60 %.
It is very strange because i'm working on a track with only one external vst on..and the rest is about sampled sounds and Live's native audio effects.With the track stopped so no play at all..the cpu value is stucked on 65%.
I can suggest you not to upgrade your mac to mavericks until a stable version of Live 9.1 is out. anyway i just installed the 32 version and think that the problem is more related to Mavericks than to Live.
I'm still waiting to know if someone else out there is having my same problem..

 

65% CPU load without even playing the project is insane. Does this also happen when you open a new project with just 1 track in it and no devices/plugins on that track/returns/master ? If the load is still that high you could open OSX Maverick's activity tool to see what it says about Live's cpu/memory load to make sure it isn't a glitch of some sort in Live's CPU monitor

 

On Mavericks, also. 9.1 32 bit. No spikes or erratic CPU issues.

 

I just made a few try..first i tried to check the cpu status on a brand new project without any kind of audio effects or instruments loaded..and the cpu stays on 0%
Then i opened an earlier version of the same project on which i'm having the problem and the cpu with no track playing is set on 50 %.
So i really don't know what is wrong..i also checked the maverick's activity tool and Live seems to work fine..but i realized that 7 of my 8 gb ram are busy...

 

I've just installed the 32 bit version of Live 9.1 on mavericks myself. Works just fine here so I don't think it's a Mavericks problem.

That's a lot of memory usage you have there! Must be something else (besides) Live since you use the 32bit version which means it can't make use of more than 4GB

 

Thank's for the advice..i might switch to 64 version tu use all my ram but that would mean to switch all my plug ins also and it will be a hard work and i'm not sure about doing it..even if my mac is running on 64.
Anyway i just realized that i have two instruments rack in my track with 16 different sessions of NI MASSIVE on..but they're not playing i used them to sample some sounds..and when the track is playing they're there on..but not playing..u think that it could be the problem..and actually i have like 95 different channels loaded in Live with at least two auto filters one compressor and one eq eight loaded on everyone.Of course many of the channels are grouped into one singular channel..

 

Ahhh the 16 instances of massive are likely to build op the usage, even when they're not playing a clip. If you want to keep them in the project without using any resources the only way to shut them down is in the bottom area of live by clicking the round on/off switch on the device

 

I don't intend to switch off of the topic, but for a while now, I haven't seen any significant difference in performance going 64-bit. Especially in Live. I haven't noticed any in Logic or Reaper as well. I know you can access/utilize more RAM, but I just don't see or notice the difference. Sorry for the tangent.

 

Ok..sorry for the delay..i had to make different tries and i have to thank you cos' once switched off the plug ins..i got almost 20% less of cpu usage..so that means that anything is working fine and the problem is that too many plug ins are on the track.
Once again thank's for your attention..and for your great advice..i didn't know about it..i mean the switch off button of plug in to save cpu.
But i'm still not sure 100% if it was only about the amount of plugs running in my Project.

I've added the option to disable app nap (cmd-I) on the Ableton Suite application just in case. I've yet to see any spikes. Maybe they are plug-in related?

 

The most common reason for not noticing any improvement in performance is that you don't reach the point where your DAW uses all it's available memory in 32bit (which is 4 gb) a 64bit version is able to use more than 4gb but if it doesn't need that much memory, it doesn't use it so you won't notice any difference.

 

Like previously said it seems to be related to app nap.
