I'm also tempted to move away from Windows, but 2 things are holding me back: driver issues and unsupported software (RME for me) and having to use bridges to work with my DAWs and plugins...

I have a lot of respect for people who actually use linux to produce music, but I don't think these people exist in the real world

For the tech savvy user there are few limitations in Linux. For the rest of us we use what is currently available & remind developers to strongly consider Linux support.

macOS/OSX is always a viable option especially with new Apple Silicon.

If you stay with a well developed Debian based option for production such as AV Linux or Unbuntu Studio, it comes down to properly matching supported hardware or, creating your own configs to match hardware you already have. This usually involves listing the device id (which should always be connected to the same port), number of stereo and mono channels, allowed sample rates.

No need to dual boot. You just need a computer, Mac or PC, that offers the features you require.

For anyone using dual boot, each OS should be on a separate physical device. Not a partition on the same device. Advice from experienced IT specialists & system administrators.

On the MacBook Air (2014) that my son gave me a few years ago, I tested AV Linux MXE from a live USB session. Everything worked flawlessly. Was not expecting that.

Currently testing on a 10 year old Dell Laptop and so far, everything is working flawlessly. Just not enough CPU power & memory for Carla on that old laptop. Only 2C/4T @2.4GHz, 4GB memory.
