98 percent of time you dont use it ,but if you have some empty spaces before the end of the break in the mix an automated reverb just to fill then blanks them mute it, faded it ,of course, and if you use it ,the non linear reverb is the weapon of choice course it thickens the mix ,and usual reverbs thin the mix cause of phase cancelation.
thats just my opinion, there are not rules in music production.

Reverb on the Mix Buss/Master is a very old trick. The type of reverb used should compliment the type of music being mixed.
    • It can help with adding space or dimension.
    • It can help with instrument/element separation
    • It can help push a mix more forward perception wise.

in most cases this is done sparingly/sparsely. Like parallel compression, you just blend it in to the point where the desired affect is reached.

This is a very old trick and you need trained ears to set it up correctly. We’re talking 4-10% wet with an appropriate frequency curve on the verb.

I would recommend against trying this on your releases until you get more comfortable as it is more likely to do harm than good to your master.

I find 2caudio B2 has some good starting point presets. (the Dual Engine Ambiences)

But I would use it with care, as MYCbeats said. Reverb is one of those things that initially sounds great on the master bus,
but has the tendency to affect elements where you don't focus on negativly.

    Q: Reverb on the master?
    A: ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
Sometimes is the only way to fix a dry mix? Yes, but is not a solution.

As a mastering engineer I've only added reverb on the master a few times. That's because it needed it (very very little amount) as a glueing/homogenic element.

Note that I'm not a mastering engineer, but sometimes I've used a fast verb on master.

One thing to keep in mind that you need to turn it way down. Basically set it to something where it sounds reasonable, then turn it down, then turn it down again until you can barely hear it.

Evren Göknar (Grammy awarded mastering engineer at Capitol Studios), once said he adds some reverb on mastering stage if song is too dry. So i asume it's kinda ok to use reverb on mixbus. Just matter is do you really need it? If you really need it, apply it.

Zynaptiq's Adaptiverb can glue the master really nice if used in a certain way.

    Yes. Use it. Why not???
You can use simple or as an artistic way to create dephs in some parts (or the whole song too)
I'm not a big fan to put it in, but sometimes can help.

I've used it to glue a mix, to add commonality to the whole. Just a little dab will do ya. Dick Clark agrees, and who would know more about music, keeps their finger on the pulse of today's evolving sounds.

    NO!

Aux send and that's it. Glueing happens right there in the aux. No need to put it on a master channel. Ridiculous actually. Sorry.

I would only use reverb on a master chain if i wanted a very specific thing, like vaporwave effect, or 80's feeling, but a very suble effect. At 99% of the time I wouldn't use it on the master, but on the single elements instead, just because reverb can deeply affect the stereo field and cause serious harmonic crashes on the elements.

I'll put it on an FX bus and use sends on each track, works good for me....I never put it on the master bus

If it fulfills a purpose that cannot be achieved otherwise, yes! Otherwise? No!

I was told that there are also people who demonize reverb on bass. Why not? If it sounds good ...

TBH, that's the way I've done it. But mostly (not only) for subgroups (which contain all of the audio), not for all tracks individually (severe lazy-bugger-syndrome [IMG]).
