Which they did? Or MSI not too premium for you? Regardless again, it's not just specs, we're not comparing desktops here. Again, every single premium Windows laptop will be crippled by their very high power usage. That's why M1's are very revolutionary, being able to be used on battery! Which seems ridiculous for a laptop to not have these, but this is one of the single ones that do that (other ones are low powered intel chips meant for web browsing etc)

Guys, here every time you compare an Apple feature with a Windows one you change the subject.
Apple announced that its M1 products would embarrassingly destroy all Windows mobile machines in terms of performance. And already here Mac has failed. Windows mobile workstations are superior for the same price, and in our world the price is the only thing that matters. Everything else is propaganda.

Well performance in a mobile device is important! This Mac does destroy, don't get it wrong! Also remember what you think is a mobile workstation! If your "mobile" workstation is plugged in 99% of the times, then you need a desktop! If you use the same power on battery then you have a laptop. It's the reason why you dont see desktop CPU/gpu on laptops cuz they are supposed to be portable. Well if you ever had a powerful Windows laptop, you'll know how a charger makes all the difference. So let's not act like this is just another intel chip with nvidia combo like the other ones!

So why all this hype about the battery?
I don't understand, why the charger makes any difference for you, professionals?
If you are professional, you work with a stable power supply, right? (not on the beach, right?)
    So WHY?
Mac should be better with or without charger (charger is not an argument for me, at least, not so powerful to pay much for the new laptop)

No its not. Again it is an 10th generation intel comet lake. It is 2 years old. And the notebook costs 1200-1400 euro the M1 Max starts at 3500 €

theese are the intel generations ....

Comet Lake (10 Generation) <<<<< -------- THIS IS THE COMPETITOR appel chose to compare their M1 max flagship too. In their own presentation.
    Cascade Lake (10 generation)
    Rocket Lake (11 Generation)
    Ice Lake (10 Generation)
    Lake filed (10 Generation)
Tiger Lake (11 Generation) <<<<<< ------- -this is what it actually should compete with.
Alder Lake (12. Generation) <<<<<< ------- release in fall 2021 this is what it actually should compete with.
    Meteor Lake (13 Generation)

Well see this is the thing, all those nice i7/i9 and RTX 3080/3070 won't have the same performance on battery (they are literally crippled) ! The reason is that they simply consume too much power and those batteries will die in 1 hour or so (depending how intensive your work is), so the manufactures have to force the cpu/gpu to consume very little so you have at least 3-5 hours of light-moderate work! I assume you never had a laptop that has at least some powerful specs!

Now, of course if a professional is in a static environment they would simply use desktops! No reason to buy these laptops or any laptop! But since this is a laptop and is meant for actual heavy work, mobile environment, you are not sacrificing anything if you're not plugged in! That's cuz of the ARM architecture that is specifically designed for performance at very low power. And that's also why you'll see a huge battery time on these Macs.

Think for example, you're a mixing/mastering engineer or producer that has to travel for different purposes. You have to spend a lot of time traveling, and you still have work to do, so you need a laptop. A laptop that doesn't need to be plugged in to handle the work you did on your expensive rig at home. That's the point and why I personally think these Macs are exceptional!

The M1 performance is excellent, but clearly disappointing compared to expectations, it is not me saying that but most of the benchmark companies. I have an i9 Windows workstation and have not had problems with battery autonomy, and of course I had to load the charger from the third-fourth hour of intense work. But that completely satisfies me, and in two years I've never had a performance drop, never a problem or crash, nothing.
I work and use Mac, but I believe you have never tried a modern Windows mobile workstation. You think you are dealing with the old Windows of 10 years ago but things have completely changed.
These new Apple machines have something like 5 hours of battery autonomy under stress, not to mention the performance degradation from the second year onwards.

    1. You are not forced to get Max. You can get Pro for very big difference from the M1.
    2. $3,699 is the price for the best Max, with 64GB of RAM (also is very different from x64) MacbookPro 16 inch. If you want more storage you can get it but I assume pro's already have their storage as external.
    3. These are all the tested laptops Apple compared the new Macs to. At least have your sources right. All of these are 11th Gen, new RTX.

I understand, however M1 were never supposed to be Pro level chips! See you already see that i9 needs a lot of power and their charger must be on to finish the task. I'm not comparing 10 year old tech. I know how Windows laptops are, since I am using one and have been using. Never had a Macbook cuz I agree before these new macs, they were not good!

But still you can't deny what I said! 5 hours for intensive work is a lot from a laptop! Also these 5 hours are not crippled like you would see otherwise! That's a huge difference and a huge advancement in all kind of pro level work!

I've always said new Macs are great machines, but it's always true that you still need to plug in the charger to get the job done. Autonomy is excellent, but still not enough. It involves recharging the battery about an hour later, comparing to my Windows workstation.
But even the M1 MAX needs the charger to work anyway.

I mean sure, you're never gonna get 24h of work lol, but for me 5 hours is more than enough. That's something unachievable in any other laptop on battery. Of course using in plugged in is gonna work the same way as it would in your i9, but with 1 difference. You can't have the same performance if you're NOT using it plugged in. That's a fact, that has been proven. If you plan on using it always plugged in then you might as well buy a desktop computer.

Yes of course, but in any case for me it is still insufficient to justify such a high price, in terms to value for money. But that's my opinion.
As for desktop vs mobile, unfortunately when you have to travel and move around so many places it is essential to have a mobile workstation. Desktops are more stable and powerful, but they cannot be carried every day.

Please no more windows vs mac.

Let those macs come out and we can see how they perform against the competition. Arguing only about apple's comparison is not fair.

And that m1 max is whole another story it has a built in powerhouse gpu that we've never seen before as an integrated gpu.

I think that there isn't much different between m1 pro and max processing powerwise max has more gpu cores and memory.

The bitter truth is that if you want that much power from a windows laptop it's not that easy to find at that profile with all those features including size, silence, high battery life and that high impedance headphone out.

Software wise i personally prefer macos beacause it's much stable and easy to focus on work. And i love core audio.

And why do those popular artists which we call pros use macbooks very often. Because they got those for free? There are reasons for everything i'm not saying that macs are far superior than windows computers. Both of them have their own strengths and weaknesses.

I respect your case, the thing is this new Mac isn't at all expensive. It's just that these guys like to compare the top line specs. Specs aren't always everything. Sure if you have laptops with Ryzen vs Intel, AMD GPU vs nVidia GPU, then I understand. But the thing is, ARM CPU/GPU's are quite different and don't require as much as x64 ones. In fact if I had to guess, I would say ARM is gonna surpass x64 in the future. I've seen some friend's M1 Mac Mini's and I'm very impressed, especially with Logic Pro where it handles almost everything without any noise.

Yup that price is high. But we all have to expect such a thing from apple as usual, sepecially for those higher end models.

I think it was absolutely not a war between Windows and Mac. On the contrary, I think it was an excellent exchange of opinions, always very correct and based on our personal experiences.

and anyone wishing for something similar to these machines

hold your horses then a couple of months and you will then hear about the m2 air, most probably at a much reasonable price than these video editing monsters.

For musicians that one will be the real cherry pick of this new gen

we, Reaper users have been enjoying 64-channel 3D spatial mixing with included ReaSurroundPan since May 2021

I still think spatial audio and dolby atmos is an utter bullshit in music - people have been messing with Binaural and all sorts of headphone-like 3D for no less than 30 years, and still nobody cares....

speaking of the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips - sure they are awesome, but as an M1 MacMini 16GB user, I can sincerely tell, I haven't run into any limitations in my audio workflows, as long as I stayed in full ARM-natively-supported software/plugin path chain,
M1 basically matches my old (t)rusty i7-5820K @4.3GHz so for audio, no thanks I'm good with fairly cheap and dead silent M1,
until ALL relevant audio software+plugin devs provide proper Apple SIlicon native compatibility, Apple's increasing cpu core count helps not, sorry,

about prices, those are crazy as always, but as a matter of fact they are slightly cheaper than previous Intel counterparts at "comparable" (RAM/storage) options,
fun thing about those new MBPs - 14" model battery duration is rated noticeably lower than 13" (looks like stronger chip and fancy screen eats more, unsurprisingly), MagSafe is cool but with no ethernet in power brick and no real info about Thunderbolt 4 power delivery through external Docking stations makes it rather redundant to me, oh and then there's the weird 3 ports of Thunderbolt, means Apple Silicon throughput is still too weak to match Intel which had 4 ports (or maybe I just see things wrong way?)

seeing the variety of SoC (cpu/gpu) options, there must be a BIG failure rate in production (which is not terrible, Intel, AMD, nVidia and others do same, hence why the various models to sell), apparently much bigger than "small" M1 chip, which scrap is just a 7-core gpu M1 variant for entry-level MBA only,

I have zero interest in purchase of fragile overly expensive laptops,
sadly it seems chip shortage catches Apple too - people who order new MBPs now get estimated deliveries in mid December at best, so there's practically zero chance to see (and buy!) any other new Mac this year,
if Apple follows their schedule, we might see iMac Pro and iMac Max in April/May 2022 (same chips as these new MBPs), maybe also new MacMini Pro, but I doubt Apple would prioritize cheap MacMini over fancy iMac when it comes to profits ratio,
MacPro coming no sooner than year from now, with new MacOS in October/November 2022

whoever decides to buy new MBPs - sure I can't discourage you, they are definitely a step up for heavy users - but it's questionable if audio world can make use of such devices

ps: how long will Audinate pretend Dante Virtual Soundcard on Apple Silicon is not dead?

    :chilling:

Indeed, the plugin manufactures need to catch up, but I'm pretty sure they will follow as I doubt they want to lose all the Mac revenue (since I don't think Apple will make new Intel macs of any kind).

I'm pretty sure you can use any Thunderbold for charging too if you don't want MagSafe (MagSafe also has fast charging which is pretty good). As always docks will work fine, Thunderbold 4 is no joke, you can dock 2 ProDisplay or 3 ProDisplay + 4k TV on Max. There aren't ThunderBolt 3's, all of them are 4, Silicon is over Intel ones in this regard of ports. Plus you have HDMI, headphone jack etc. so some docks are not needed as much.

Not sure what you mean by the SOC thing. The only differences are in GPU department (besides the Pro vs Max) which makes total sense for other pro work like video editing etc. M1 was actually a 8core, the iMac's baseline is 7 core for some reason, the Mac Mini is 8core.

I personally don't need a laptop either, but would be definitely insterested in a M1Pro/Max or M2 Mac Mini.
