So what's your proposal? Reject new technology and remain stuck to Intel Pentium? I don't understand what is the point, are you a M1 hater?

I got it, the problem is you don't get it.

But please tell me how much the "software side" has control over what the CPU does, really? The fact is, nothing, there are far too many layers before the code gets executed. First you deal with the OS API, then the OS kernel, then that hits the CPU which breaks the code down to microcode which a programmer has no control over, I mean, you don't get to tell the CPU how it should reorder the instructions, never.

The programming language is totally immaterial here.

Except the M1 we already have was already a very powerful chip for audio production. You have to remember this and the new chips are amazing power without heavy power consumption, meaning you can actually expect to use that power without being tied to the charger like you’re on life support. And in the case of Mac Mini you have a silent small beast that also does wonders even on non native software/plugins. That’s why they are breakthrough

That's great, but I'm still waiting for the next release in 2022 with the M2 (16 chip). It's weird they announced 12 chip CPUs for this release and finally it's "only" 10 (vs 8 for my current M1). To be honest the M1 is great but I still have some limitations in Ableton with certain plugins (Softube Modular...) or if I stack up (way) too many instances of Kontakt, Diva, etc... I'd like to have no limitation at all with my future upgrade.

But otherwise perfect release! More screen real estate, more RAM (up to 64), more ports on the side finally again... time to start eating pasta and saving money for the M2 :guru:

They never announced the chip before the apple event everything else was rumors. Also the number of performance cores did indeed double (from m1) from 4 to 8, and the efficient cores was lowered to 2. You have no idea that m2 will be 16 cores.

The rumors are usually 99% accurate (it was very close this time), it today's world it's impossible to keep things secret too long.

    M2 Pro and M2 Max—Late 2022

According to reports, Apple is planning an even higher-end chip for the Mac Pro and possibly a larger iMac. The chip will likely have several tiers of performance, which could “come in 20 or 40 computing core variations, made up of 16 high-performance or 32 high-performance cores and four or eight high-efficiency cores,” according to a Bloomberg report.

The workstation-caliber chip is also rumored to have 64 core or 128 core options for graphics, which would replace the AMD GPUs in current models. Those specs are comparable to what Intel and AMD offer in their top-of-the-line chips and would challenge the fastest PCs, at least on paper.

Geekbench single core score is pretty close (according to leaked ss) but multicore is pretty impressive.

M1 MAX is pretty similar to i9 10900K, not bad, actually is a good machine.

It is the old apple game.

" The M1 Max is 1.7 times better than a Msi GPG 6600 lepard (Intel Core i7-10750H)!!!"

Well this Intel chip is now (Alder lake 12th gen intel is released in the next few weeks or days) 2 Generations old.

Oh and did I mention the MSi costs about 1400 bucks not 3500.

Still way overpriced. Like always, you pay at least 35% for the brand name.

What about liquid retina display, High impedance headphone support. That display is a top tier one.
    Still that macbook is expensive.

As i can see these are not as attractive-priced as m1 models and that's the nature between consumer vs pro-focused computers.

I'm not justifying apple's decision but the price fact always was same as now. Users atleast can expect better performance than old intel models.

Yes that is correct. The features are state of the art - it is a new release. I did not say it is bad.
But all the features you mentioned do not change the fact that apple in their own product presentation compared the M1 max (flagship) to an at least 2-year-old notebook that you can get for 1200 - 1400 euro. And Apple tells you "wow look it is the shit! Go buy it!"

Why did apple not compare it to something in the league of an M1 max like an i.e. alienware x17?
I tell you why because the alienware is cheaper with around 3k and beats the M1 max by a good amount performance wise.

Well this tells all about apple you need to know. Still no change, Still overpriced, not worth it. Still a fanboy product. Still not at the point where they were once, good products for professionals.

Late to the techie party
I think this is largely due to a x2 increase RAM bandwidth in the M1s Max.

I can't wait to how performs the future Mac Pro chips. The desktop ones, that is.

The prices though, are sadistic indeed.

This is not your average new CPU/GPU/APU.
This processors are disruptive. I'll never have a Mac but as a techie I'm fascinated by these babies. More than with any other present or past AMD, Intel or even nVidia.

ultra flat, expensive and, according to the manufacturer, extremely powerful. We're not talking about a new Macbook Pro but a cleaning rag.

    apple think different

This is wrong, if this was like 3-4 years ago I would've agreed, but not this time. Let's take price first:

Alienware x17 (as you mentioned): 2200 dollars baseline with i7 11800H, RTX 3060 (obv mobile version), 16GB Ram and 256GB NVME SSD.
Macbook Pro 16 inch (to be fair with screen size): 2500 dollars baseline M1 Pro, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD NVME.

M1 Pro (not Max) is already more powerful than the i9–9880H (previous top of the line spec). But specs aside, you have much better speakers, headphone powerful amp, a good camera, better battery, much lighter, much thinner, more than likely less jet engine fan sound and again much more important for a LAPTOP having the same performance on battery as while plugged in.

I have yet to understand the point of a laptop that needs a charger to have performance, or that is thicker, heavier than some backpacks full of books.

Also before you start calling me a fanboy, I have a ASUS laptop, never owned a Macbook. Don't be the typical Apple = bad and everyone that says otherwise is a fanboy.

You still did not answer my question. If the M1 is so powerful, so well-equipped and fantastic, why does apple not compare their new product the M1 Max to a notebook in the league of the M1 max ? Why do they compare it to an Msi GPG 6600 lepard notebook? In their own presentation.

I told you why I think they did it. Because they could not justify the price compared to an actual competitor. And even mainstream fanboys would have noticed, well this is not so big like you try to sell it to us apple.

If you are doing premium products, you have to be brave enough to compete with premium products.

If apple makes a presentation "Look world this is our new MacBook Pro, it is 1,7 more powerfull and better equipped than the current premium product of dell, Asus etc "you name" it, and it is not much more expensive than this product, I am back in.

You don't need to compare to every single product! That would be ridiculous. Especially since every single other laptop uses the same chips/combos. Even that MSI leopard has the same specs as your mentioned Alienware one. So unless you want to compare different shells of laptops then you have no reason to. They also compared it to MSI GE76 Raider (11UH-053) on GPU performance (and that has a RTX3080) and you bet your ass that's even more expensive than baseline I said earlier.

Plus remember we're talking MOBILE performance that's meant for LAPTOP's. Now imagine using that laptop crippled to the power outlet or using it as intended on a train/plane/trip etc and having the same performance on battery.

I have to agree, M1 MAX has to compare with its competitors in its price range, that is, starting from $ 4,400 upwards. It goes without saying that if you compare a $ 6,000 M1 MAX with a Windows Intel of the same price the results would be a disaster for Apple's propaganda.

Have you checked the prices or we just naming random prices? Also remember the prices you see on the websites are both CPU and GPU! Don't think the top of the line Max is only the i7/i9! Please check the prices for other laptops too, and include their respective latest RTX 3080 and i9!

I don't want to compare it to every single product. :woot:

I just want to see apple compare it to 1 single premium product in their presentation. And not to an older Msi.
