The factory presets have a lot of these 'hold one key' types of sounds. Not the most flexible, but I guess it forces you to think in new ways.

You may learn a thing or two about Vital synthesis possibilities by visiting our Vital vst synthesizer free original presets sharing thread, so you could do a really informative video about Vital vst.

It's just that you have not discovered the best soundsets yet. You have to scratch the surface.

There's a handful of tutorials for this on the sister site. Does anyone have one in particular that they recommend? Or maybe a good Youtube tutorial? I understand subtractive synthesis but I haven't really tackled wavetable yet.

For sure - my video shows what some of the PRO Factory presets sound like. And it's limited strictly to the factory sounds, which, in my opinion, contain lots of ear candy-type presets. The more "playable" presets were a bit too simple and boring to showcase.

So what are the "best" Vital soundsets?

Vital is cool, not the biggest fan of the filter, but otherwise really nice synth, I want to use it more than Serum.

But I really don't like that the preset files are so big... 3000 presets already take 2,5 gb

I don't use it, but I think he should have charged a few bucks for it. If I did not have paid copy of Serum already, 10 or 20 bucks for Vital would be a great deal.

It seems that the pitch on most of these is off.
Is it just me (my system)?

Do you have the preset name(s), then I can take a look.
Yes the pitch settings are normal and intentional.
No, it is not your system. All controller settings are stored in the preset and are the same everywhere.
Attached is a vital photo with the pitch setting.

It is most of them. I found only a few that had the right pitch (and some that are questionable due to the style).
Many seemed obvious due to the relations of pitch:
    For example: OSC1: +5, OSC2: -7 and OSC3: +17.
    Subtracting 5 from each gives OSC1: 0, OSC2: -12, OSC3: +12

It should be easy to find them.
I went through and changed to what seemed right, but a few I left alone and marked like "PatchName -fixed -no".
I accidently saved 2 that i think did not need fixing but marked them as fixed.
I added in the noted "Pitch fixed" or "Pitch fixed -no" for those i didn't.
I'll send a link to my "fixed" ones just in case they are off, and you want to go through them.

No @DoubleTake, everything is correct. The pitch ratios are all O.K. It's the way it's supposed to be.
I can't understand your calculation, sorry.
If you want to change something, you are free - do it the way you like it best.

If I were to retire to an island for the rest of my life with a computer and a dozen software synths, Vital would immediately be one of the first I would pack, along with Surge and a lesser known but equally amazing one: Odin 2. And all that before choosing among my paid synths.

The only reason i noticed is that, for example the one you showed, "Analog Jupiter 8 Lead", the overall pitch of the sound to my ear is is 4 steps lower than standard pitch. (Osc1: -4, Osc2: +8, Osc3 +8)
If I bring all oscillators up by 4 steps, (Osc1: 0, Osc2: +12, Osc: +12), it keeps the relationships right but puts the patch into standard pitch.
    See what I mean?
