What a nice paper about "Esther" ! For french readers: https://www.trip-hop.net/album-4213-antimonos-esther-auto-production.html For english folks (@Gyro Gearloose ;) ): https://translate.google.com/transl...um-4213-antimonos-esther-auto-production.html
Hi everyone ! (Yes I rebumped the thread) I'm currently working on a new album and I would love to get more feedbacks on "Esther" ! Actually, I would love to get your Bad Reviews only about my musical work in general, but also about the graphical content, strategic moves, artistic choices or anything that could be relevant ! (Don't mince your words I don't need to be spared) Here are few links to listen to my music : I'm very pleased with all positive feedbacks I can receive from public but I feel like I could benefit more from focusing on stuff people doesn't like and keep this in mind. I know what I'm looking for when I make music but being aware of what the public thinks and wants can be very rewarding IMHO. Thanks a lot for your time, take care ! Last edited: Oct 9, 2021
Dude.. this is true Adiophile material! You gonna make me plug the AKG and check the sound stage.. I don't have a favorite yet, but they seem to progress nicely from one another, and be parts of the whole, Kinda like a conceptual New Age album or something.. Great stuff, will vote later Last edited: Oct 9, 2021
Thanks a lot for your kind words ! I made another thread, I would be very happy to get your Bad Review too https://audiosex.pro/threads/kill-me-for-my-own-good.60991/#post-588250 (It's the same post as the one above yours, but I thought a new thread was more appropriate) Thanks again !
Well it's a difficult pick, as all the tracks are great, there's good ideas all around, and the sound/production is bananas. Lots of care has been put into every little thing/detail, and it shows. So it's hard to pick one, but the ones that stood out for me were 1,2,3 and 5.. and I would cast a double vote for 2 and 5 It sounds excellent with both my DT880 and K712, but I kinda prefer the 880 for this one, as they are a bit more Detailed, and with the already Wide/Warm K712 it kinda becomes too much of an ambience. In a way you're already making the Beyers sound like AKGs with all that Spatial information, but it's quite balanced and not overdone, so that's quite a feat in itself.. lol The Bass is much more full/punchy with the AKGs tho, as delicate/organic as they are, they can perform quite well with electronic music too. Btw some elements of the production, reminded me of the good old Deep Forest, I'm sure you know them.. but ofc much Modernized, more Progressive, Mellow and Balanced.. Great stuff
Thanks ! That's a really interesting feedback. I have DT770 Pro and DT990 Pro from Beyerdynamic, I guess the DT880 is in between I don't know how the K712 sounds, but I tend to make everything too wide, these headphones could be a remedy during the premix ! I have to try them. I bought HD600 last year but I'm not really a big fan, too thin/cold IMHO without correction, it could be a smart move to sell them... I have to try the K712 before I make a mistake !
I found the HD600 to be kinda Veiled and Dull, Not Crisp/Detailed like the Beyers.. so it was a big disappointment. However they have a very balanced FR, and that's Positive. And while they have some Soundstage, they are considerably more Distant than the AKG.. The AKG are not as crazy Detailed as the Beyers, but they are not Dull or Veiled, just a little bit Softer, more Organic and slightly granular.. In terms of Soundstage.. 880s= Circular, Medium/Small sized.. kinda like being surrounded by musicians K712= Very Wide and Tall, but also very Vivid/Engaging.. like being in the third row of an Imax cinema. HD600= Wide enough, but not too Tall, kinda more Narrow and Distant, like being on the 8/10th row of a live Concert/Opera/Theater.. So in terms of Soundstage, I think the only thing that could compete with AKG are surely: HD800s, or Hifiman Ananda/Arya. (but check the prices.. heh) And maybe, Phillips 9500 or Fidelio X2. Maybe those could be considered too In terms of pure Mixing/Working, you're good using the 990's tho! Beyer = microscope AKG = Macroscope The AKG are more of a last step mastering thing, to check the balance/space, and see how it will sound in a more warm/wide context.. Last edited: Oct 9, 2021
10/10 on my blown out Aerial7 Chopper2 Headphones. need more cowbell though j/k passage A is my favorite because its gives me dengue dengue dengue -chicho and balkansky -kuker vibes
It seems way too busy, too much repitition and the constant overly loud clacking is irritating to my ears, others like the tunes so that is what should count, my opinion shouldn't be considered since I have different musical tastes.
I understand your point of view and I agree with you ! I like this too repetitive, too busy perspective but I totally understand you, I make others kinds of music where I prefer simpler structures ;) Thanks for sharing your opinion !
When I started composing I did the same as you asking for opinions from friends and other musicians. This is the best way to hone and fine tune your music, this attitude of accepting others opinions allowed me to expand my musical horizons immensely into many genres that I wouldn't have bothered listening to or playing in my formative years. you have a lot of potential, just try to refine it, when I record something that I think is perfect I put it aside for a few days and listen it again, when I put too many hours into a tune I get a type of brainfog so this pause is essential to listen to them after being well rested and refreshed it's like hearing it with new ears. I hope you find these suggestions helpful. Last edited: Oct 10, 2021
There's some good work here mate, well done. You should submit to https://futureastronauts.net they have a long-running ambient podcast I've been following since they started. They also have a label. You'd feel right at home there.
Yeah music is music, there is plenty of good things in every genre Thanks for the tips by the way ! I actually already do that, I love "fresh ears" feeling, I mix/master almost exclusively in the morning
I'm interested by Hifiman Sundara, what do you think about these headphones ? (If you know them of course)
