I did, thank you, it reminded me of the Douglas Adams quote "time is an illusion, lunch time doubly so". :) and the Bell entangled photon experiment - perception - weird huh.. :)

was that bit at the end about brain surgery to check who was still paying attention...?

    Yeah, right.
    What does "doom scrolling" mean?

It's in human nature and always has been said in each culture.

In my native tongue the saying would be translated as "any past time was better".
The truth, as you well guessed is that "in past times we were better".
Healthier, in better shape, less responsabilities and more fun, and so on.

    It's herd mentality.
Look at the Akai S-1000 Price fluctuations over the past decade, once they collectively realize gear is actually good they want it.

Tbh I can't wait until the next 808 revival in 2050, preferrably with an autotune alternative that has a wider variety of sounds (I mean ours technically has it too they just never use it)

The "analogue" unplanned obsolescence was at times even more annoying.
Once (1990 or so) I was testing an original Hammond (cannot tell you the model) and after a pair of minutes a dense smoke came out the integrated amp? The owner wanted to kill me but I wasn't responsible, it was just its unplanned obsolence.

Yep, I think that even life at times feels like a perception, but that could be my abuse of acid...

    That's right!

"Doomscrolling or Doomsurfing is the act of spending an excessive amount of screen time devoted to the absorption of negative news. Increased consumption of predominantly negative news may result in harmful psychophysiological responses in some."
    From Wikipedia.

Your translation is better, no doubt.
But I do not agree on the rest, unless it's ironic OR you mean that every generation thinks to be better than the newer, something that is debatable, even if I think the same.

This must be false. I have now read that negative news paragraph 1,423,236 times
and can say with certainty that it has not yet had any detrimental effect on me - I'll check again.

As a 60+ years young DJ/producer, I LOVE this thread.

I can't explain why but my best and most accurate memory related to music is the day I first heard "Billie Jean". Why I couldn't even tell you where I was when, 16 years later, I discovered one of the most famous anthem of trance music: the "Sanctuary Mix" of "Silence" by Delerium?
Maybe it's because our fondest memories are imprinted more deeply during our youngest years than afterwards...?

I also think in past times, humankind had a better grasp on practicality. In this century with every phone having a tracking chip, if the world put that physically as they do in phones in guns, computers, whitegoods, musical equipment and anything that cannot be instantly consumed, the world would have less theft and possibly deaths because only hardened criminals with computing science skills and dumbasses would do stupid things. The more comments requiring common sense that I see on social media and actual News outlets, the more I am convinced the Globe has been dumbed down.

The latter. Most, say, 45+ year old people think things were better when they were young. It's only natural, happens to me as well as an old fuck I am. You have to be aware of it though, in order to "re-calibrate" your thoughts with the reality.
For once I think is very useful to coin a name for this. One of the big problems of social networks. They reward extreme content because it hooks us by touching our sensitive fibers.
And here most of the victims are the young people who use them more and since way younger.
But it was us the older generation who created those algorithms.
