    @Valnar
You talk of the electronics industry.
This thread is very much about the recording industry.
Yes, there is an overlap, but you aren't strictly on-topic.
    Different industries.

    Thanks for this information.
I already knew most of it since I'm 65 and dropped out of the industry in 1986 for these reasons.
As of October 8th I'm retired with 3 pensions, I can afford to make however weird music I want without going hungry for days at a time.
F**k the industry. They can kiss my ass.
Find a way to financially afford artistic freedom without selling your soul.
I worked in a school for children with severe multiple handicaps for 21 years to get here.
The canvas is so blank, it's almost scary except for my need to fill it in.

After the pinnacle of my industry stint I chose to bring myself back down to Earth and work in elderly care for a few years.
Very humbling. Had to be an extreme change to balance everything out! haha.
And to give back from the heart whilst I was not in the need of funds so much.
Thank you very much for saying what you've said here.
It's what the young 'uns need to hear, I reckon.
Best wishes with the next chapter of your life!
Makes me happy to hear you have arrived where you are now in life.

    First sentence on topic.
    But BOOM! Plugins? What?
Thread is about the Music industry.
Not the computer software industry! lol
And even a mod misses this too!
    Yet:

Reminds me of the good old COSM..

Not that it sounded bad, BOSS guitar mfx were always on the top of the game,
but it's not exactly what one would call the most "realist", more so in 2021..

Still for a Live rig I'd take any Boss GT6-10 or Vox ToneLab + Amp/pedals over any modeller, that's for sure

Interesting information. In large companies, there are many ways of money laundering and account fraud. One of the most famous financial scandals occurred in 1998 with the large company Waste Management. Have you ever heard of him? You can Learn more here about how Waste Management executives predetermined revenues and manipulated the company's financial results to generate those revenues.

The worst (IMHO): plugin/software companies/developers who are using:

    - i-Lok, e-Licenser, CodeMeter, and similar shits as "protection" schemes (now cr'ked), which pollutes our computers, slowing them (sometimes drastically).
In case I like/love the product, I buy a license only if correctly cr'ked, and use cr'ked only (load faster, works better, and so on). I don't care if it's legal or not!

    - Permanent online to check your license, perhaps other things - we don't know they're doing exactly, remotely...

    - Subscription model.

    - Abusive pricing about updates (Steinberg, Reason Studios, now Ableton - life duration of Live 10 was extremely short, IMO).

    - Monopoly policy like Native Instruments does about their controllers (Maschine Mikro/MK3, KK keyboards), optimized for their crappy softwares, but totally unefficient outside these "jails".

Don't forget the legit customer is always the loser in the story!

    The best:

    - Cockos, concerning REAPER and its fair policy. It's very rare.

    - Passionate developers/hobbyists who create excellent contents/plugs, sometimes by spending their free times, for free or very affordable. First examples in mind are Klanghelm and Togu Audio Line.

    - "Pay-as-you-want" model: for example, OpZilla synthesizer.

Not only was it short but Live 10 is an absolute mess in terms of stability in my case. 9 was rock solid. Also the amount of money it takes in between upgrades is RIDICULOUS. Then again, I paid for Suite so I really am an idiot.

The business model layed out in this video is the worst case scenario. But there are other ways to do it, too. If an artist is smart, he/she negotiates a better deal and keeps the right to his masters ass well.

Any "documentary" where the whole topic is covered in under 4 minutes, which uses statements from protagonists which remain nameless while mysterious music is playing in the background is not really what I would consider the epitome of serious journalism. :D

    Three gravediggers

In the live operation, where the financial affectations of the classical music stars are still raging unchecked, the abysses are now becoming visible. A recent trial revealed that even the tours of the "Three Tenors" do not take place without black money, embezzlement and fictitious consultant fees. The Süddeutsche Zeitung from 23.10. 1998 summarizes: "There appears to be a climate in the major concert industry of constant psychological blackmail for more money, a search for tax loopholes, and a fraudulent ethos." While here government tax regulations inspire fraudulent instincts, elsewhere the government is still cracking down : namely in the established institutions of classical life. As early as 1985, more than two and a half billion marks flowed from the public budgets of the timeGermany in subsidizing the classical music business. At that time, a Bavarian orchestra solo viola player earned as much as the Munich police chief.

In 1990, the German opera houses alone collected one and a half billion marks from Bonn funds: This clearly exceeds the annual profits of the entire record industry of all music genres worldwide. Due to immense state subsidies, a financial standard is created in the classic company that lacks any economic basis. Because the classical audience is a mini-elite: the German opera houses only recoup about a sixth of their expenses. Hardly more than five percent of the CDs we sell are classical titles at all. It's no wonder that the artificial classical hype in the CD sector is threatening life.

Send stuff (plugins, sample packs, soundsets, etc) to famous producers and they write something nice back -- been also there, since then im always like fine, doesnt make the product better if XYZ claimed to use WTS product. Bcs now you know how this all works ...

Claim famous producers xyz has prototyped something :D
Best example was the Chorus Sean Tyas has "design" the chorus for schack audio - i still wonder how you design a chorus inside Ableton - and no he didnt use M4L, he created an effect rack with 4 chorus effects ...

    Or Nicky Romero's Kickstart

    Worst strategy i have seen:
Audio demos for audio plugins instead of demo versions or fully dressed soundset demos ...

reminds me on the one John Oliver episode from a while ago (think 4-6weeks ago), where he talked about the concert bussiness in the USA.

As an example he had Justin Bieber some concert, which was sold out in an hour or so on ticketmaster. Effective marketing i would guess.
After a big digging you could find that only a fraction of the tickets were sold, rest was bought by the justin biebers team itself, reselling, giving tickets to credit cards, etc.
So in reality, there was not a huge rush to get these tickets for the concert, it was an illusion if you only sell small fractions of the whole concert.

Sometimes i think marketing is just a well planned way of covering the truth in very appealing layers of lies to make it more attractive to the potential buyer.
