Hi guys. About SSL UC1 Do you need an ILok to use this controller? Can you use this controller with R2R version of SSL plugins? It's for a friend...
It is bundled with free channel strip and bus compressor plugin... And SSL 360 does not require iLok. So you don't need to pay extra.
The thing is that my friend would like to use this controller with all those SSL plugins but he would NEVER EVER nail an ILok into his computer... if you know what I mean.
A friend talked to me about SSL 360°, but what is the purpose of this proggie? Is it a controller-only thing? If you have no controller at all, is it still useful?
SSL 360 ca be used without the hardware. It makes your workflow pretty similar to a console workflow... and that may have many pros.
Any plugin software that has knobs and faders that can be learnt via MIDI to an external controller can use any external controller that is up to standard. All daws are built on MIDI, and therefore nearly 100% of plugins can work with any external MIDI controller. Very few devs don't code this now. = "controller". Just saying. Plugin.
Its just like a second or complementary mixer for your daw that looks like an ssl console, anyways i love the design its more beautiful than any daw mixer panel Last edited: Sep 29, 2021
Yes, both the channel strip and bus compressor. To use 360 to it's fullest, I think you would need the fader controller as well, but a lot of people still use it without any controller whatsoever.
Do you use the plugin version they provide with the controller or use R2R ones? Does the controller ask to connect to SSL site to upgrade or something like that? I mean, it would be the best scenario to be able yo just plug the clontroller and use the plugins you already had...
No MIDI controller device will ever do that! lol As you can. As I said above. Even if a controller is hard coded with certain cc, you can still change it on the receiving end. It's all just MIDI.
I was curious to try that, so I went to solid state website to grab a demo. It seems that iLok licensing is needed even to use demo version... How could it be? Doesn't make sense to me
The R2R version will! Ha! I thought it was a picture of a plugin! lol So it IS a physical controller! Aha! No; no hardware device will call home! Ever! lol. Sorry for the confusion. But equally, you were saying things that were confused!
Unfortunately the R2R vers is win only... no matter, I have hundreds of compressors, I can live without it My question was different: What is the point to put an ilok protection to a demo?
So this thread started with no required ILok but now it seems it does... Confusing. Someone can clear this? It's about knowing if R2R plugin versions can be used with this controller without having to use any short of hardware dongle.
