Artificial Intelligence - My arse!!!!

Marketeers should be prosecuted for using such terminology. And I'm guessing they are deliberately trying to make the tapes look like they are positioned in front of 2 HAL 9000s?

As a complete ignorant on this subject, I'm curious to know what allows you to say that no artificial intelligence is used in this plugin.

 

@Udi Zisser I think that you bother to do demos for people is a great thing.
I do have a question though. at around 01:48 you mention that as you push the drive up, the auto-gain levels it out. This without seeing any specifications or what is included within, makes me want to ask if there is a brick wall limiter built-in ?
If there is, do they say as much?

When someone says artificial intelligence, say like Smart EQ 3, does this plugin have an analysis function where it analyses the incoming audio?
These are questions only, I enjoy how passionate you are in your videos. Personally, I like to separate limiting, compression, verb, delay, modulation etcetera and tend to avoid plugins where I do not have a choice. If this has all of those, do they say as much? With the wow and flutter, obviously there will be flanging at extremes but do they mention every effect included?

There are 3 types of artificial intelligence (AI): narrow or weak AI, general or strong AI, and artificial superintelligence.

We have currently only achieved narrow AI. (Alexa, Siri etc).
Imagine how impressed you would be if the marketeers claimed their product uses the latest weak AI.

 

Unfortunately for some people, they confuse A.I with something that automatically does everything for you. To fit into an A.I. category, all it has to do is meet one of these - In the theory and development of computer systems, means it is able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages(and more). Your point is valid about different levels of it being unmentioned, but if it can make one decision for you no matter how small, it seems to be the fad labelling as A.I.

And it takes about 5/10 mins to kick in in the RPi0

 

Normally this is done by simply measuring the LUFS or K-weighted RMS within a certain time window at the input and at the output, comparing the output signal with the input signal and adjusting the value if you change the corresponding parameter.

Unlike traditional tape emulation plugins that use algorithms to emulate what happens in the analogue circuitry of a tape machine, TAIP uses an AI algorithm which has spent thousands of hours detecting the difference between the dry and wet audio examples.

 

That makes perfect sense, however, if you listen to it when it is implemented, the audio sounds squashed. If the signal was automatically adjusted at a gain lowering/raising level, it should theoretically change nothing but the gain? Even if the time factor was implemented at a very slow rate, wouldn't you simply hear a decrease/increase in gain rather than it sounding like it hit a brick wall and squashed?

I can hardly believe in that story. Thousands of hours of what tapes? Where did they find them? What actually did they measure? With what equipment?
And of course nobody can check it (you'd need thousands of hours and hundreds of tapes yourself)
There are clear graphs of tape saturation, and that's it (if you ignore the tape manufacturer and the type of tape, tape speed, etc. /as they did/).

You don't get wow and flutter which is soley a timing issue from worn out tape which you mention at approximately 2:15. What you would get are dropouts, noise or limited bandwidth capture and playback.



Stick that in your machine and roll it
