Fl Studio had this feature for years now and you don't have to wonder how to use it. Very straightforward.

Want to add a new section? Then make a new folder in windows inside fl vst directory and Fl Studio picks it up then you scan it into the folder you have open in the fl studio browser panel and that's it.

That's cool. I did read other people's comments too on FL. :) Horses for courses. Keep in mind Reason has always been a sequencer and patchbay based module that used to rewire into every DAW on the market including FL. They simply decided to add the DAW facility after Reason 5. Their entire system has been a solid large-scale sequencing/routing/patchbay system for a very long time well before FL. As purely a DAW, I use Cubase. Reason seems to run almost everything that is third party even the troublesome ones people say "doesn't work in...." and runs all the Steinberg vsts and apps which a lot of DAW's do not. It also supports the Ableton link.

Tbh Reason was the only other daw that intrigued me most. I really wanted it after I got into Fl, now I get to see what it's all about. I bet it's awesome and I've been missing out on a lot. The racks flowing in a similar fashion to Kontakt really interests me. I love how you guys just get that type of workflow with a back of the unit to run things any way you want with such an organic visual representation. Looks super fun too.

I've been getting into Reaper lately for traditional left to right recording projects but having Reaper to try alongside Fl Studio for more synth based work sounds like an unbeatable combination. Do they still let you rewire it in the later versions? I haven't tried it vaguely since Reason 5.

you have to turn off vst startup scan, then it loads fast here on my 5 years old notebook.

Ofc Reaper is faster, but it has also less stuff i think - or at least stuff i really use.

win 95 never had rounded edges? whats wrong with a minimal GUI?

i know this, actual tried. Arturia did a good thing there GUI wise, but somehow Storm never rly stuck.

I used Ableton a bit when collaborating with some friends and it has that a sort of rack flow going on at the bottom simlar to Reason. But Ableton seems the most confusing to me. I know many use it for live use though so that makes many people Ableton users form their performance view.

    Why is it confusing?
I have never used session view.

I use arrangement view always, drop stuff inside this view and then im good to go. Took me a few hours without video tutorial to understand that in Live 8 as moved.

Reason with its cable was problematic to me, its to slow for me. Never got used to it.

I dont use Live for performance either, i used it as normal DAW to write music in arrangement view.

Maybe you are just not up with the thinking how Ableton works. It is very weird why we pick some the DAWs we use daily and somehow ending up loving it ...

Fl studio looks really nice and smooth. Cubase 5 also looks really good visually.

Nothing really to do with Ableton because there are so many people making sick music with it.
It's just one of those situations where you gel with one thing and see it going this way vs another way. Just that when I was inside my friends copy of Ableton working on our collaboration everything was in the opposite side of where it would be.

Took a while to adjust and I was asking him how to do certain things and he didn't know some super basics despite being 4 years deep into Ableton. It was a frustrating experience for both of us.

I also thought it looked neutral gui wise but I thought about it and I think that's a great thing because it's probably less exhausting than looking at too many saturated colors too long vst flat themes. Which is why lately I've been loving flat themes in Reaper.

I think each person should really go with the DAW that suits them most. Reason I have always seen as a 'swiss army knife that you add onto your main DAW as a slave.
I still think they should have kept rewire and I know I am not alone in that opinion, but I understand some of why they dispensed with it.
Rewire became a standard for a very long time. I suppose it's like anything, things change but the idea of running anything from FL, Ableton, Sibelius, Reason itself and most standalone DAW's apps as a slave of choice was cool.

Reaper is lightweight and fast and when time is of the essence I totally get why so many people use it. It also has a lot of power for such a tiny application in file size. As much as I love other apps, you do have to ask what all the other DAW's are doing to make their file sizes so massive . Without the add-ons, vst's and expansion equivalents all the other DAW's have, they still do not add up with their file size versus Reaper. I think the Reaper dev's are really quite exceptional to get it so small even though it is not my DAW of choice. I also wondered why they did not spend more time making the interface and icons more professional, but the users with skinning have almost taken care of that. Perhaps if they bundled super Hi-res graphics Reaper would not be what is. I do not know.

EDIT: Comparing DAW's is really a waste of time for the most part, as it is like comparing operating systems. Each has their own thing and main purpose. That said, if I did, Reaper is most like Linux, it pretty much runs on anything, almost without any minimum specifications. I would not be surprised if someone said it ran on an ancient windows 98 machine.

I think that's normal and also a really good thing. Every one of us has something akin to a 'comfort zone'. What you said makes perfect sense.

It also seems that Propellerheads have partnered with Ableton in one way or another. I am disappointed Propellerheads dispensed with rewire because you could use it with any DAW. I tested the Ableton link with Reason 12 and you can slave Reason from it without any glitches (so far) much like rewire. Unfortunately, now rewire has gone, the only other way is MIDI host syncing with other DAW's. I have tried every DAW outside of my DAW of choice and while I do not use Ableton as my default choice, it certainly is the easiest DAW to learn its intricacies outside of normal DAW expectations.

Agreed, day off today so sometimes I end up checking out what other daws are doing. Never know what I might like or find useful.

ReWire was what I thought was the coolest feature. I thought it was Voodoo first time I saw it and how intuitive it really was. It's sad to learn they scrapped it and went a different way. Sure would be great to get a rack workflow alongside today.
This was also one of my first thoughts when I first launched Reaper. I literally just said WTF out loud. I couldn't believe it opened like paint in windows. I don't even think I could have sneezed in that time frame. Reaper is a definite keeper for me right now but I will soon find some time to try Reason. Seriously if Reaper has that much power and it's light as a feather then really what is in most daws? I bet it's developers porn stash they forgot to code out.

Yes! It seemed to be ahead of time.
The best modern GUI for me is in Cubase. But I'm not using it.
Working in Reason from time to time since version1.0, nowadays mostly in VST-mode(with Ableton).
Guys, please share your Reaper Themes' links if it's possible(available in R's Stash).

Cool Edit Pro 2 => Simple

Nuendo 4 / Cubase 5 => So so, but the best region look (waveform) aesthetically than Studio One 4

FL Studio 20 => Funny and Sweety

Reason 5 => Cool but not to cool aesthetically

ProTools => Not impressive but okay

Samplitude Pro X3 => Errr pretty neat I think

Studio One 4 => This DAW I love the most aesthetically

Ableton Live 9 => I feel lost at first glance

Reaper 5 => Interesting default look
