Weird issue after changing sample rate

    Since I changed the sample rate during the process, many weird issues happened. Harmony Engine sounds weird, Reference plays original track in the background and etc etc. Well, I should accept it as it was my fault anyways and it seems there is no way to fix these issues.
    But, one of the issues that could be fixed is that the graphic issue every time I update the mastering file.

    As you can see above, the graphic is broken and no progress bar is available. Is there any way to fix it?

    That's because you shouldn't change the sample rate in the middle of a project. A sample rate should be set at the start of a project.
    It's defined by the interface audio driver. If you use samples or Kontakt Libraries, these are all recorded to a certain sample rate,
    and should be played back with that same sample rate. If you don't..

    many weird issues will happen!

    Edit: what you can do is export or render a (finished) audiofile to a different sample rate, but not during the process of creation.

    It's not because of a plugin, but is about the sample rate as I mentioned in the post. Other projects are alright.

    I know. But I found that I set the sample rate 44khz during the process and changed it without care so much and it was too late when I realized it could cause many issues you mentioned. I have a question. Would it be the same with other DAW or just for S1?

    Changing sample rate may cause different problems. Like old versions of DMG eqs, frequencies replaces to another frequencies. For example, you cut 550 Hz and then after SR changed, you get cut not in 550 Hz, and then changing it back, replaces again, and still no 550, but it was fixed now.
    Also, IR are sample rate dependent. 8192 at 44.1 is same as 16384 at 88.2.
    Reverbs may sound different with different SR.
    Once I changed 44.1 to 96, and a PSP reverb became very different.
    Subtle perception of compression timing of attack with sounds with/without ultrasounds. Nuances.
    Nyquist area at highs (for eqs and filters) may differ also. Phase and frequency.
    Aliasing.
    You also need to upsample all the samples with top quality SRC, to avoid problems done by DAW's SRC.
    Etc.

    So, changing sample rate at the end/middle of project is not the best method to improve quality. You just need to revise everything. Depends on sounds, plugins, their bugs etc.

    It is better to use oversampling and HQ plugins with good algos. Or start a new project with SR you need. If your goal is to lessen aliasing and to get better highs, to make a bit digitally cleaner....

    Thanks for the details. I just found it caused other projects as well. After I update the mastering file, the drums sound weird. It works fine when I check the realtime processing in the advanced option. I didn't realize it can cause an issue with DAW as well.

    I just found it was not the issue of the sample rate, but was about S1 issue. Since the version 5.2, the issue happens. I created a new song without changing the sample rate and the same issue happened. It crashes, freezes or takes forever for updating the mastering file. S1 even changes the tune during the process! It is a critical issue and I'm curious if it happens in the legit version as well.
    S1 has been too buggy these days.

    The best thing to do is to go back to the previous version and wait until the bug has been fixed.
    Studio One support welcomed every tip so they can improve the product.

    depending on what kind of music you do, you might get a bigger effect if you increase bit depth 16-24.
    especially if you record low volume things like spoken word of fine i.e. very dynamic instruments.
    sample rate makes the biggest difference with bigger projects i.e. large track counts

    as the other said every Sound should be rendered after sample rate change
    wav. files like frozen tracks wont sound better if they where rendered before sample rate change
    like, there still will be truncation in the fades!
    for instance(in fades) those only disappear, if you rendered them, after changing bit depth

    in mastering for instance they avoid sample rate conversion like the plague and rather
    record into a different computer, in the desired sample rate

    I know that Cubase can change the sample rates of audio files after the project has been recorded BUT it is like every other DAW that can do that. You do not trust it because of one thing, it is destructive. This means that if it fails you are stuck with unusable files at wrong tempos and in-between pitch.

    You are better off exporting/rendering your files individually (without inserts/bus plugins) at the rate the project is in. Then close it and create a new project/session with either a higher or lower sample rate and import your rendered files from the location on your HDD you previously exported. That is the only non-destructive way I know that is 100% safe. It is not something I'd particularly like to do, but it is safe.

    As for Studio One - plenty of suggestions above.
