i really like the BOD sansamp, find myself using it on heavy mixes quite often. i've only ever tried it on DI captured bass audio, but it might be worth a try after a VST. price of admission is worth the experiment (free lol)

I'm not positive but I think the Ample Sound AMR sounds like that. Why don't you watch some demos in YT?

 

Give MODO Bass a try. You can adjust fret noise and pick attack. I prefer it to EZBass. However, it doesn't have any preset grooves like EZBass does, but it doesn't sound like you need those.

As others have said, Amplesound Metal Ray5, EZBass Metal EBX or Classic Rock EBX, or there's plenty of variety with the different modelled basses in Modo, particularly the Stingray for metal.
Also, NI Scarbee Bass has some really useable nasty Rickenbacker tones.

Put through Aurora DSP Mammoth or Neural DSP Darkglass Ultra.

 

EZ Bass is one I have not tried. As for sampled basses, I own Ample Sound Ample Metal Ray (AMR) - five-stringed bass. Great sound. You can change your strings tunings individually. You have a nice number of articulations available. Slides are also possible. You can remove any internal FX and pass the sound through your favourite Amp simulator. Impact Soundworks Shreddage 3 Abyss is also a nice option. The samples are said to be the same as in Shreddage Bass 2, but Shreddage 3 Abyss makes use of new features: you have some internal amp & Fx simulators. TACT (present in all of Shreddage 3 instrument series) allows you to customize how keyswitches affect your sound. IK Multimedia MODO Bass is not sample-based - everything is emulated and it sounds pretty realistic. You have plenty of choices at hand (e.g. finger / pick / slap playing; choose between flat or rounded wound strings, gauge (heavy / medium / light strings), their degree of usage (new, broken-in, old), touch: (soft / normal / hard), graduable muting of the strings (through MIDI CC - you have to choose your own CC number in the "control" page). Most of the choices I've mentioned can be either Keyswitch-controlled or MIDI CC controlled. The most noticeable feature is that MODO Bass includes 14 bass models from the get-go. You do not have to purchase the model you wish to use. Any 4-stringed bass can be turned into 5-stringed. You can activate Drop-D tuning if you need it for the 4th string. The instrument allows you to use two different bass amp emulations, but you can control the levels of DI sound and Amp sound. You can use just the DI output and pass your sound through any other bass amp emulation (Like IK Multimedia's Amplitube SVX and SVX2 collections). I know that not being a sampled instrument can make you doubt as to how realistic it can sound. You can download and try the demo first. Or listen to sound demos. - Do that for all the above mentioned basses and take your pick.

 

You should try a jazz bass ample sound has good ones use it with neural dsp dark glass. It was already recommended here but I support the recommendation
