The reason? See thread title. In other words, they suit(ed) and emphasise(d) my mood to a much greater extend than other songs.

@Ad Heesive well said my friend and frankly I intended the post to be about #4 and that was primarily the reason/choice behind my list.
it is my mistake i should've chosen a better title but anyway glad where this thread is going and listening to all suggestions here, already found a few gems i never heard before
for me a song is primarily about lyrics (it is a song and not an instrumental composition) and the music that goes with it
that is why i don't care much for rap (frankly most of the time i can't make out what they're saying and strong language doesn't impress me much) exceptions of course eg: stan by eminem. it has a story and maybe a moral
when it comes for music i care for the music itself i mean even if a kid with modest abilities plays Fur Elise by beethoven can anyone really says i hate this music ?! i don't think so. i appreciate any virtuoso just like anyone of you, but the music comes first not the interpreter.
so where does this leave Chance or Aleatory music ? well i figure just like there are talented poets/lyricists and talented music writers there are talented people that come with novel ideas (threnody for the victims of hiroshima eg) or flashy shows etc and those are appreciated too

@ddoctor the reason for this thread is so we can discover new music so take a listen and find out not everybody sees things from the same angle
like a painting some like the colors, the subject, the technique or the idea behind it etc

as an example of what i like i leave you with the lyrics to Joan Baez: be not too hard
    i hope you like it

Be not too hard for life is short
And nothing is given to man
Be not too hard when he is sold or bought
For he must manage as best he can
Be not too hard when he blindly dies
Fighting for things he does not own
Be not too hard when he tells lies
Or if his heart is sometimes like a stone
Be not too hard for soon he'll die
Often no wiser than he began
Be not too hard for life is short
And nothing is given to man

    Peace

I was too young to recognize how deeply this would affect my ear

I will go with four songs

The Isley brothers - This old heart of mine
    Kain - Comme dans l'temps
Mr. Hyde - Rhyme to murder. Don't worry. It's principaly for the music. That's a fucking great instrumental.
The four tops - I can't help myself

I want to give Lou Reeds "Perfect Day" a mention. It's combination of joy overlaid with an agonizing sadness always touches me profoundly.

  11. If it is going to be a song that touches my soul it must be a song that speaks to our souls and addresses our creator. Non religious sense, although I am still Pope.
