interesting, but to many developers have settled with VST3 already and is it very good implemented in JUCE for example. I dont see how this will gain enough popularity ... Even it is maybe a better alternative. Since Steinberg refuses to allow MIDI VST3 plugins. Because their opinion simply is that, DAW should handle MIDI ... :dont: :snuffy:

Otherwise i think VST3 is quite good.

let's not fall into that trap.

i had some look around in the VST SDK, since im learning about plugin coding. And apart from the MIDI it just seems to work good.

So what is your content in this particular message?

Also LV2 seems to special aim at Linux platform, so what is your point?

Another point is, LV2 is good, but if your fav. DAW does not support it, it is useless for you.

VST3 was a mess for developers.
VST 2.1 works fine for me (including midi), it could do (almost) anything a musician will ever need.
new and of relevance only was the the AU wrapping and the multichannel stuff.
many other v3.x features are not used by the majority of plug-ins anyway.

Iirc, one of the main purposes with LV2 is that it is compatible with all major OS's. This maybe benefits Linux the most, since they don't have any really good plug-in formats, but LV2 is not made specifically for Linux. I might be wrong though!

I guess I just dream of going legal but I can't kick the vst habit.
I love finding free stuff and since I started using reaper I found out that other platforms exist.
good luck @ArticStorm with the vst programing!:)

There are almost no LV2 plugins available separately on Windows. Very few if any LV2 authors make their plugins available on Windows as ready-to-run things. That means that you’d have to compile them yourself or find somebody else who has already done this.

In general, most people working on Windows tend to use VST plugins instead of LV2 plugins. There’s nothing fundamental stopping the use of LV2, except for this issue that they are not normally available without compiling them first.

Where can one find a VST SDK? I've written code in C, C#, Java, Ruby, Python and even assembly. I would love to have a look at VST. I doubt I would ever write VST code but it would be interesting so look under the hood.
