I download videos from YouTube with JDownloader 2 and then delete the video files so that only music remains.

 

You can download a non-reencoded original m4a audio from YouTube.

If you're meaning to record just a few seconds or something short, I use Audacity https://www.audacityteam.org/ Choosing "loopback" for the recording device. I use this when there's something sounding into Windows.

Read out with dBpoweramp - I play all files with the VLC Media Player.

 

I hold a copy of Youtube-dl in my C drive,
and then execute this in a cmd with administrator rights:

c:\youtube-dl -f 251 YourVideoLink -x --audio-format wav -o c:/%(title)s-%(id)s.%(ext)s

it grabs the highest stream available, and converts it to wav for easier handling.
and drops it in the C dictory

 

The OGG have 5,89 MB. I converted the Song. the Flac have 37,72 MB.

Yes, it's a pleasure to use it.
A dumb but illustrative example: you can download a mp4 video in low A/V quality and then download too the best audio quality available, only the sound, say in aac.
All of that easily with a GUI. It's a beast.

its "download mp3" button leads you to a webbased service but it feels almost like built-in.

and it has a few other usefuls features such as a more logical and user friendly autoplay/autostop function.

the original youtube site´s autostart really goes on my nerves.

 

The easiest and most direct way is to use tools to download YouTube videos. In this regard, most of the desktop download tools are charged, and some online download tools are free. Take the Geekersoft Free YouTube to MP3/Audio I am using as an example.

Steps:

1. Copy your video URL

3.Paste the copied link

for short recordings i use chrome audio capture extension. its literally just a record button to start and stop the recording.
