We all remember the fantastic updates from the earlier versions... each new version would get amazing new synths, great tools, many new features...
And one day, the Rack Extensions were announced... and there were no more amazing updates.
With the RE, propellerheads went from
'Hey, let's put all these new synths and tools and many new features to make the update worth it'
    To
'Hey, instead of giving this new synth for free, with the new update, let's instead sell it as a rack Extension, for 80...100...or 120 bucks ' !

The rack Extensions would have been cool, if all tools cost like 10 or15€, and the instruments, 20..25€ MAX
But instruments for +100€... a big fuk u, from me.
What made reason cool, was... the tracks. It's just normal to buy a new update, and expect it to come with... a bunch of new racks, too pay with.
Not only an update costs almost 150€... but it comes with almost no new rack ! What the fuck...

Again, reason isn't a daw like cubase or bitwig... no. It's a freaking damn RACK /modular tool. So it's just normal, to want the new updates to come with plenty of new toys...
You buy the update... and you have to pay hundreds and hundreds more, for the COOL/BEST propellerhead plugins and instruments, that obviously, never made it in a software update...

And the 3rd party stuff... devs can port their vst plugins to reason, by just adding a few lines of code, so... they just grab their existing plugins or instruments, add a few lines of code.. and it is ready to run as a RE !

I will laugh, (if) the day a team will release reason with ALL the RE pre activated. Maybe then, propellerhead will start putting more new plugins and instruments on their updates, like they used to do

    You're wrong.
The Rack Plugin is VST3 but it can not run VST3 plugins inside the Rack Plugin or DAW.

    I know it's confusing.

Bitwig studio really needs a combinator like gui tool for it's modular devices.

I used to be a Reason enthusiast, even doing courses for my friends, making and sharing combinators ... but those days are over for years and years.

For "old" ppl in the game like me, they know what i mean.
They spend their time "back pedaling" for ALL major features.

MIDI OUT, audio recording, VST ... EVERY TIME they said "no" ... and they done it anyway, BUT with a LOT of time lost.

Their effects, synths ... where BAD sounding compared to any other serious VST
They "upped" the game with "racks" plugins. But too late.

And who really want to pay for Reason Racks only ?
Whereas they can pay VST and use them on any serious DAW ?

Everytime, they try to TIE you to their monolithic system.
No way guys ... this time is long gone for me AND thousands ppl

    For what reason...?
GUI fix, search fix, minor updates & improvements. all to charge another upgrade fee for what should have been 'no charge' for current registered users. Oh.. and let us not forget about the spinning fan to make the sound that much better.

It is nice ... until you hear the crappy non racks sound
And deal with locked down eco system (even more closed than Apple)
    And limitations
    And upgrade price
    And ...

So yes try it for 7 days but be prepared for the jump
That's probably why it is only 7 days

they went full on not including this Feature. But you have VST2 i think. :D (Since when is VST2 discontinued?!)

Also i think their Rack Extension business model didnt works as expected?

I have never used it. I use the Reason Plugin in Ableton, worked pretty good, but to really buy it, it is not enough for me. And with reducing the Trail time to 7 days, they didnt do any good ... Because nobody is serious enough to delve into Reason deep enough to buy it for that price tag with all its quirks ...

Why would you run a VST3 plugin inside a VST3 plugin? Reason 12 rack is a VST3 plugin:

Make no sense to run a VST3 plugin inside a VST3 plugin. That is what a DAW is for. I don't care about Reason standalone version. To me Reason has always been a plugin not a DAW

I'm still on 9.5. I use Ableton Live for all my recording and Reason for my mixing. I love Reason and it's mixer page, but the updates are not worth what they cost and haven't been for a good few years now. Still no VST3 is astonishing. Their own Reason rack plugin can be used as a VST3, but they don't accept them in their own program? So stupid. I mean, I know it's because Reason can't handle them, they have barely been able to handle any VSTs for years (when 9.5 came out, it was nearly unusable), soooo why does it cost so much and why don't they give away more of their stuff/rack extensions to justify that cost? They're weirdos.

Online every now and then. But to get it first working you definitely need an online connection!

Hello world - I have legit Reason Suite 11 running along side R2R Reason 12 both working swell. If I install Reason Companion which is the new rack system will this mess anything up in stopping R2R from working correctly does anyone please know?
