There're a bunch of differences between them. Some more obvious, some less and one severe.

Both respond differently to input & output settings and the GR reponds differently to the same source, which I find pretty strange.

    Pro v5:
    • larger GUI, way better readable
    • 4x oversampling instead of 2x
    • popup values for the knobs (funnily even for ratio [IMG])
    • way better performance (more than twice)

    Con v5:
    • shown values for release times are wrong. According to PluginDoctor they're more than three times less!
    • max release time way shorter than in v4
    • HPF has way more audible effect in v4
    • HF has bigger range in v4

I couldn't find any way to match their sounds. This is mainly, and this is the severe difference, because v4 sounds way more clear and upfront! It also produces a higher RMS.
Even when I'd set v5 to 50% mix, v4 was more upfront!

So, if you're looking for a dirty, pushed-to-the-back sound v5 is the way to go. If not, you better stick to v4.

That is strange behavior indeed. I have been testing AO current releases in mix sessions to hear how they improve or mangle audio across multiple tracks. While some are very good, they still seem to be off or lacking in some way.

This led me to trying more of the JS & LV2 plugins in Reaper. Sonic Anomaly & x42. very good results so far.

The OSS used to be a very fine comp. I also tried later revisions but they just didnt sound that good.
It seems coding can be like mixing a song, the more you do it the less objective you can get and eventually butcher it.

@DMehldau Perhaps you have the grace to explain what exactly you are disagreeing with. Since I've listed several points, your rating would otherwise be too unspecific, IMHO.
