    hey everybody,

so I stumbled across this tune, the other day:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG5aSZBAuPs

do any of you guys and girls have some info on how to get/synthesize that kind of sound? seems to be a rather common new school r'n'b sort of thing.

    anyhoo, thanks in advance, everybody.

    have a nice evening!

This is a pretty straight forward sound here m8 :)

You've got two options here, if you want to be lazy, just load up Massive and search for a preset called "Parts", which IMO that's what everyone's using atm judging by the fact that you said "seems to be a rather common new school r'n'b sort of thing.", by the way, don't forget to turn off the macro named "Add Voice".

If you want to go and take a quick shot at synthesizing this sound, you should grab a 2 OSC synth and get a sawtooth running about and another osc in an higher key to give it more harmonics. That done, grab a LP filter, filter it to taste, add a big ammount of portamento (I find something between 400ms and 500ms to do the job) and ...probably wouldn't hurt fitting an env follower to open the filter a bit.

On another tip..and as I'm a bloke who likes the old school methods, I just tried to recreate it and got pretty close by sampling the intro pad from this tune Source Direct - Snake Style

Throw it into your sampler, lowpass it, use some crossfade looping, stretch the sample thru all the keyboard and just add portamento to taste.

    Cheers :)

I did, indeed. What RM123 pointed out was extremely helpful, I just played by ear after that. Definitely used "portamento" instead of "pitch bend", though!
