Hey!

I have a massive library of drumkits, samples and just wanted to start using some sample managers. I started using adsr for while, but it couldnt handle that much files so it was constantly crashing. Last week I started using loopcloud which i like very much, but also I heared and whatched some tutorials about sononym. It looks solid too, will give it chance but before try, I just wanted to hear some opinions.

Sononym is the best at automatic tagging, pitch detection, and finding similar sounds based on various factors.
Loopcloud is not as powerful, but can be used as an instrument, with various editing and modulation tools available.
A good comparison to Loopcloud would be Big Fish Audio's Momentum.

 

Loopcloud feels clumsy and slow with its build in shop, imo.
XLN Audio XO is quite good but 8 slots are far to less for my needs.

For me, the fastest way to sort samples is just to use quicklook, or resonic and manually sort them in folders

 

i like the feature of being able to instantly test stuff insync with a current project. that is actually the main use i have for loopcloud

 

Loopcloud is INCREDIBLE. A true game changer in regards to work flow, so much so that I haven't used my DAW's browser in months.

Additionally, sample matching features (like Sonomym's) are coming to the next LC update... I've already tested them and they are fantastic.

 

That is needed if it wants to compete with Sonomym.

 

I use both. They both have their strengths. I would say have both in your arsenal.

If you see my past posts I'm a huge advocate of Loopcloud. I use it on 99% of what im working on. Sononym is a usecase tool for me.

In key and time browsing of loopcloud is so powerful!

 

Certainly. I've been testing their new sound matching functionality and its impressive.

There's another HUGE implication of this feature but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to reveal it... Just think, massive Loopcloud store database... Sound matching...

For me, the only use I have for loop packs are finding oneshots to sample.
I do not trust using loops, b/c I'm not into 50/50 splits.

 

loops don't need 50/50 splits. but u can use one-shots in loopcloud. In key and in time

 

you mean loopcloud is sending up data about your samples (even your *samplez) when you index them with their software?
it would be really interesting to know if someone who knows this area can sniff something about such an activity. they may say something about it in their agreement info, haven' tread it though

That is certainly an interesting point and something I'd like to know myself. Loopcloud can be used offline so I'm hoping all analysis and databasing is done locally.

 

hi all, given LC 6 has been released since this thread was created, wondered if anyone had any feedback on how good the "Search Similar" feature is in Loopcloud compared to Sononym? Is Sononym still more advanced due to having more search parameters in this feature? Also, with LC can you search similar using your own samples/recordings (like in Sononym)? Thanks

 

wait, no one gonna defend adsr's manager?
isn't a option trying to figure out what is making adsr crash other than the big size of your library?

 

LC has gotten almost like a paid software now but its still usable and good at what it does

 

I tried it, nothing special, its free anyways so can't complain. But LC and others are superior at tagging than ADSR
