Sorry for hijacking this thread, but i didn't want to ask such a short question in form of a new thread:

Is it possible to run SmartEQ2 alongside SmartEQ3 on the same machine?
Or does v3 overwrite things, or is sharing the same folder?
Or is v3 originally intended as an update for v2?

I've got v2 installed, and would like to keep it, but to try out v3 as well!

Installs in its own folder, can run alongside v2.

Works fine when adding 3 instances. Freezes ableton when adding the forth. It does wake itself up after a time and allows me to continue working.

Haven't spent much time on it, overlooking the freezes and hangs, it seems to do what it promises quite well.
I've tried the v1.0.1 release on win7x64 and didnt have SNMP installed or running.

Not to mention that SNMP is a really bizarre choice for communication between local components. And even when it makes sense SNMP is fucking horrible to use.

 

Microsoft has all but removed the SNMP service too depending on which version of Win 10 you are using. In later versions, it is almost hidden and not enabled. I have no idea whether that's related to a variety of people's issues or not. Some people have enabled it and it made no difference so I am not sure, but it does use UDP.

 

So, does it need the internet connection or just network at home without the internet?

The thing is SNMP is a network service. It uses UDP (brother of TCP) to communicate inside the same computer. Network at home, in one computer. That's like killing bees with a flamethrower.
Every plugin that features multitrack uses some kind of IPC (inter-process communication) technology which is way faster and doesn't need extra stuff.
- Ozone
- Blue Cat Audio multi stuff
- MeldaProduction
and so on

But the icing on the cake is that even Microsoft is deprecating this service because it's unsecure and obsolete. I'm pretty sure that's why is hidden in recent Windows versions.

I wonder since when smarteq uses this feature. Sonible is supposed to be great at coding. They co-developed the ARA standard alongside Celemony and Presonus.

 

That's a good thing to have on their development record (ARA i.e.) - The grey area is that they said they used UDP. I get that from a low latency and low tolerance perspective if it was an internal Network application inside a secure network environment because it speeds up transmissions, but for music?? I am neither for it or against it. I also get why MS thinks it is insecure as it requires zero acknowledgement like TCP/IP. Sure it is faster for network but it is not secure. I am not sure it is obsolete either as much as it is an easily hackable protocol.
I have noticed though more people are having problems with SMart EQ's Group mode than those who are not.

Theoretically, anyone who is using a DAW as their most grunty and important computer should probably consider not having it connected to the Internet - ever. It's not like there is a lack of hardware media transfer devices. That said if it has no network connectivity, any plugin or application relying on network connectivity simply will not work unless a network device is installed and even then an internal loopback may be required so it thinks it is on a network. People have been raving about networked DAW's being a new thing. People have been networking computers in music with MIDI interfaces since the 1980s (and in film with SMPTE interfaces) in Master/Slave mode. The only difference is it is with DAW's and audio now and bi-directional.

it seems like some have managed to get the updated version to work. Can someone please explain how to do it with the windows firewall?
On the sister site someone mentioned that you have to allow traffic for 255.255.255.255 and 226.0.0.1 but how do I do this?

 

I was asking there a lot of questions about it but the mystery of not working group mode in the plugin has not been solved yet.

 

Any way to do this without enabling the leaky Windows spyware feature?

 

I wonder if the Sonible Balancer has this same problem?

What if we try it under Linux? Possible it could work better?

 

There is another release of smartEQ3 v1.2.0 R2R. But the group mode doesn’t work for me. The group created in the first instance is not seen in another instance.

I was having this problem, but turned out it was my VPN (NordVPN in this case) causing the issue. I turned off the VPN and all the instances and groups showed up. Might be worth trying.

 

It could just be they have the IP blocked from Nord, might not be the case for all VPNs. However in my case that is what fixed it, turned it off and used my normal ISP connection and it worked fine.

 

I installed the genuine demo. I got an error about License Server Connection. The demo version needs to be activated online. So I got in touch with Sonible. They sent me links for checking. The links connect good without any problem. But I still can’t activate the demo.
So something must block in Windows 10.
