I'd really like to record my vocals. But completely new to recording anything live (17 year Fl Studio User, ahh good ole V 4 8)

    Here are problems:

    1. Buying expensive vocal chains that feature Waves plugins I have.

    2. Not sure if I'm getting the right BPM.

    1. Explained:
    They're expensive as f*ck.

    2. Explained:
I've not recorded anything. Recording is something incredibly new to me, I was hoping someone (not on this forum or post as it's not proper sub-forum) could be on my Comp while I set things up and record my first time via TeamViewer or something in exchange of doing Instrumental work for them. But might not be able to, so BPM.... See I make my beats, I can control the Bpm of the master I produce via FL Studio, but downloading beats from YouTube and guessing if they start at the initial start of the beat, sometimes its off quanitze and doest match metronome if applied appropriate bpm.

I have Pro Tools Student the expensive one each month suppose to be 79.
    Not sure what I do.

Does anyone know of any good YouTube videos or templates i can practise recording on?

Or anything you think that could fast forward teach me?

I hve a question for you personally, do you record with the effect presets applied before you set the track and then record?
Or do you apply effects after?

it depends on the artist i record. some wants effects n some dont. But I never print my vocal with effects.

if your are starting out dont think about all these, do what you feel like with or without. Then fuck up 100 times, you will find your recording style.

    RN youtube is your FRND.

Protip: If any videos your going to watch has introdcution more than 30 seconds fuck that and watch a different. Usally they be showing al bull shit and dont come to the point.

If you're paying 79 quid every month for a cut-down limited version of Pro-Tools they're scamming you..

Pay 60 quid once, and get Reaper forever (and updates for the next 5 years possibly)

If you've used Fruity Loops for 17 years, and still don't know how to record a simple vocal line,
or how to time-align elements (that are/should probably be zeroed most of the time)..

    Then fack man..
there's something wrong with the way you're doing/approaching things, or the way you're thinkin..

Think about it, nothing can replace Good Thinkin!

It is better to record the voice without FX effects. So you have a pure WAV that you can then edit in peace.
Most mistakes happen with too much reverb in the voice.

[IMG] I started doing that 4 weeks ago and wrote them down, then stopped using pro tools and ripped them all out of this notebook to use it for something else. I'm going to clean and look for all of them ontop of other stuff.

I've recorded my own drum kits with my Mic in Edison and the Pitch change Fl studio has is the tops I havn't put it out yet.
    upload_2021-7-29_6-52-22.png
but as far as my voice no, ad-libs sure

, I guess FL Studio it's enabled me. , as far as shift change and bpm slow or speed up Fl Studio has shortcuts for that like changing the pitch to match root note. I've aligned acapellas up to instrumentals I made in FL as Metronome really helps and splice tool. Pro Tools seems like a different beast. I've never heard the term "stamping" lol like the guy in above post said when I asked about recording raw waves with or without wetness. I have to concentrate cause this isn't something I can get a pirated ver of. Maybe that's what I'll start with and add do by picking spots on the beat and recording or first chopping off parts of the beginning of beat (purposely lose it) and realign it properly to bpm or finding acapellas and beats that start at the same time at first, then mis match it and then re align it..

I won't lie I've recorded full sessions for other people solely on Audacity as ghetto as that sounds...But PT no, I'm check out the Manual this guy posted to see if they have in live tutorials. I've been hunting for Example templates to practise and no luck on those. Before I start buying vocal chains like wavey waves (unless I can find it), i for sure need to get track basics down to where my self esteem is high enough.

Usually everyone starts small. First you download the demos versions of all D.A.W manufacturers and then test them to see if you can use them at all. In the beginning it is mostly FL Studio - because it is pattern based. Live musicians usually take Ableton. The people who learn the profession (media designer for picture and sound) then sound technician start with Cubase and a MAC. I ended up at Studio One looks good - good workflow. Reaper has its advantages too, but you have to like and love your DAW. Today reading seems to be out. You can also attend courses. I advocate specialist books in his own language.

I think Education is same as ultimate difference being using a Student ID not having to pay 79. These Daws can make a person go hungry. It's a sin I paid for this for a year up until last year and never used it. I got it on tounge and cheek emphasis I was going to work with some professionals but fell through and never cancelled it. I can careless about how I look, but the reality check is I can't hand over an FLP expecting to be taken as someone that takes his craft serious.

Ok will do, yea FL afforded me luxuries. Hopefully this Auto tune gets recognized by Pro tools like it did before then I'll search for PT Demos

Summ of a beeeeeech It's not ultimate student. No wonder it reinstalled and didn't recognize AAX plugins like it did before...I reactivated the license with the wrong payment version... Yea I fumbled this one 8/. Before It read the Antares AAx's like a champ same thing with guitar rig 8/.
I have to use my friend as the go between me and Avid to upgrade the version cause its in his name 8/. It will be ultimate by the 3rd. I was planning on mixing and master. I had seen your Euro price on the above post and reminded me.

Not only was I wanting to record, but just Abandon FL All together as a mixing and mastering Daw and just use as a sequencer with midi and samples and instruments. By the 3rd of August, I should be good is when my friend gets back. That foiled my plans and have to find something to do now...

I'm going to make due with the Pro Tools version I have, not care and not sit stagnant until the 3rd when the dude I used ID to sign up with comes back so can switch out versions. I don't need 7.1 surround master atm, would be nice, but stereo will due.

    So I found this
    upload_2021-7-29_23-39-40.png
    upload_2021-7-29_22-55-39.png

It's a free PT recording template he offers.

MixedBYJE Offers it free and maybe it can help someone looking for a recording template just to become familiar with a session in future by finding this post.

    upload_2021-7-29_23-5-56.png
He also offers this for free

Beat16 do you record your voice ever? And if so, do you use any kind of warm-up exercise?

I have done these before, but never before recording.

I'm curious if you do record and warm up your vocals beforehand? And if you do could share?
If not, it's ok lol. The above vocal movements open me up just fine even if for only rapping and providing ad-libs.
Thanks for being nice to me btw!

Pro Fools gatekeeping is old news. People built new gates and kept them open. Like Reaper for example. I literally click one button to record audio in Reaper.
