New member but have (on occasion) lurked about these forums for quite some time.

As subjected. - just wanted to get some feedback before releasing this demo song into the wild.

Basically - is it synthwave? I get a little confused with genres. I know it doesn't sound '80s', so would like to know what genre it'd best fit under.

I don't have any good equipment, does it sound 'okay'? I only have headphones (yes, one of those types lol). Not expecting it to be perfect, just tolerable.

The kickdrum is a bit too clicky and simple for my taste. You could also create more depth for the synths by using reverbs on send busses and lower the volume of the synth, while sending more into the reverbs, making them more "far away". pre-delay times from 30-60ms give a good room perception. more room, deeper kick, and a more balanced stereofield would be beneficial i think. check out the valhalla plate reverb and the "wider" from polyverse.

besides that, its a good song! the arrangement is detailed and i wouldnt mind about genres.

You're going to have to redefine (or perhaps even define) the term "song".

It's a start, I suppose, but you're really going to need to flesh this skeleton into something with some meat. Perhaps something akin to melody? Sometimes when Im reflecting on my own work I ask the question "What/ who is this for and does it simply leave the human spirit more impoverished than before it existed?"

And yes, the kick is diabolical and lacking the swing that this triplet time demands.

He onces said he made the worst music when he tried to fullfill the needs of the audience. But this is a good cliffhanger to a general discussion about the need of genres. Im clearly on the side where I dont care about genres and what someone could possibly think about my music while I create it, because it makes no sense to me. If I like it, its good and thats the end of the internal dialoque.

besides that, he said he is a beginner ffs. have some empathy.

 

A song (or music in general) is simply an expression - doesn't need to be defined. The only reason I asked on genre is because people like to pigeonhole things.

Sounds really good on my cheap speakers. To me that is.
Nice melody.

 

Almost perfect - a little too bass-heavy. The reverse at 1:50 minutes is a bit annoying.
