Ive mixed several albums with sienna (not this free one), and is really magic. Its a bit tricky to find the sweet spot, but make the mixes shine!

 

Shows how well the product has done since release. Personally do not own any of these types of plugins/software.

If I cannot trust my speakers for listening to well done finished & released mixes, I need a different set or, my ears checked.

 

Isn't that what BetterMaker is for?

Have you read the product page? My statement would apply equally to speakers or headphones.

This page does explicitly state that is for headphone mixing.

Ultimately, any mix must translate well on open air/normal speakers

Incredibly bad that you can't switch between your own studio prests without having a long glitch and difference in volume! It peaks a couple of dB when you switch presets........ annoying as f*ck. It's the same with most Acustica audio plugins..

 

Incredibly bad that you can't switch between studio spaces in reality without getting your ass up off the chair and without having to open doors and then close them behind you. And then on top of that still this stupid time delay when switching rooms. Do you know how long it takes until the mix is equally loud in all rooms? How often you have to run back and forth between the rooms, and in the end you are close to the edge of complete madness and your lungs are whistling? I just want to know how my f*cking snare sounds in each of the 7 studio rooms. Man, it just sucks! lol... nah, just kidding ;)

Did a quick rough mix with Sienna on my AKG headphones (level balance, pan, eq & compression only) and the result is quite good. A bit midrange-heavy, which I would attribute to the fact that the Amphions are quite restrained in the mids. But I think you can get used to that if you mix with Sienna more often. It is in any case a viable option if you have to mix on headphones.
My only criticism: I would have liked to see an additional preset with a single mono speaker ala Mix Cube in this room.

Let me leave you with this. A group I played guitar for many moons ago had a sound engineer who was legally deaf in one ear. he learned to work around his limitation & became one of the top engineers at the time.

A good mix should translate well everywhere if possible. No matter if on a hi-fi system, PA, headphones, roar box or grandma's old farting transistor radio. The reality is, this is not possible. We can only try to get as close as possible to perfect translatability. Therefore: desirable.

You made my point about speakers. It is a must. Not a desire.

How do all the mixes from the decades past translate so well. By magic? I can reach into varied library of content from the past that translates on all types of speakers & headphones.

 

Either that or you read wrong. Can't remember the last time I gave someone a dislike. You'd have to act like a dick before I'd give a dislike.

I think we are talking past each other. Perhaps a difference in the linguistic understanding of "must" and "desirable"? Personally, I don't give a fuck how a mix sounds on a smartphone. I make sure that the mix is clean in terms of frequency distribution, dynamics and depth, that the feel supports the song and my client is happy in the end. I don't see a "must" in worrying about translatability and my mixes haven't fallen apart anywhere as far as I know. If your philosophy is different from mine, good for you. I have absolutely no problem with that.
