After watching this video all the way through, having no extensions at all is more secure because the extensions can have a fingerprint. He suggests the trackers are trying to implement HW tracking. The most interesting part is a VPN won't save anybody from a fingerprint and a dedicated geolocation authority can find anyone. For John and Jane Doe it probably does not matter. For seriously bad cyber criminals causing people grief, they'll hate it - for that it's a good thing.

I wonder if I block Win11 and live without updates, how long will that work. Or can I not get around to installing 11 at some point. I don't really want to become a transparent citizen. I read yes you have to register in the Bill Gates Club (Microsoft Account). What's your strategy?

It works. There's some fine print. Rename the one you are replacing first in case it doesn't. Some say to replace it, don't.
The telemetry and privacy invasion removers for win 10 also seem to work effortlessly in 11 too.

I tested it on a machine that does not matter if it is trashed. I just opened the hosts file. it has all the manual settings I put in. Keeping in mind I replaced the appraiserres.dll file and am not using secure boot and I am not sure if that made the difference or none at all.

As for any other “upgrade” and “fantastic”purchase offers I let my natural silly enthusiasm to run wild for a while.

then when it has calmed down i simply ask myself , do I really need this?, does it contribute to your musicianship? 9 out 10 the answer is no. so unless it was time to reinstall and clean up my system I’ll not be upgrading.

10 will work perfectly for several years to come. And so far 11 doesn’t include anything for musicians, other than the garanteeed issues of experimenting with newly released major updates

I approach this the same way as I'd approach other new software toys, as in, "do I really need a new compressor/synth/etc?" as it's not doing the work for me or make me play any better.

However they can be beneficial for my workflow, work faster and work smarter. Same thing with W11, if it's more stable, perhaps a tad faster (the new task scheduler could be a boon for people with more cores, for instance) then that's a workflow thing, not directly a music making thing. For instance, then new Snap Zones (or whatever they were called) are definitely working out for me as I've used them for a while as FancyZones from PowerToys in 10.

But again, I'm in no rush to upgrade, I'll let the early adopters to weed out the bugs first :)

sure but I would like to see any however “tad” cpu improvements, I’ll dear to say there will be nothing

On the contrary, if your system is more than 6,7 years old most probably you will loose performance, specially if your running cpu graphics which was a great thing to avoid audio hiccups.

if there had been any performance improvements, even theoretical ones, they would already have splashed it all over the corporate prostitutes in “tech-press”

but nobody would be happier than me if proven wrong, I like “new and improved”

What a cluster f***k Windows 11 will be! Mandatory TPM 2.0 (I'll have to purchase the chip for my motherboard if I can even get it now), however on top of that it won't support my processor which is still running great (i7 6700K 4.00 GhHz). What the hell is Microsoft thinking? The leak of 11 ran great here after hacking it with some 10 files in order to get through the installer flagging. With this economy they want people to have to purchase newer machines, good luck!

Lol... Windows 11 RTM isn't available yet... You believe that when it's available, they will let this happen?

The information is already out there that the supported CPU list is not exhaustive, and TPM 2.0 is a "soft requirement", and ATM only 1.2 is needed. What seems to be set in stone is UEFI/Secure Boot + GPT partition on boot device, which shouldn't be a massive problem, a lot of people have converted the partition table from MBR to GPT with no issues.

Too early to come to any conclusions yet.

*edit:* But if things come to pass like in the worst case scenario (hard TPM 2.0, no improved CPU support), it's a pretty bad move from MS during a global chip shortage.

It can install and run just fine if you replace the appraiserres.dll in the Win 11 installation sources folder with the Win 10 version (rename the existing and copy file in). I did a test on a workhorse system where it did not matter if I trashed it and it is less grunty than yours, rather than risking installing on my DAW system. This is on an i7-4770 - no secure boot no TPM

I already mentioned I was able to run the 11 leak here. I'm referring to the actual release requirements. Hopefully, there continues to be ways around those requirements! BTW, when I click on the widget icon in the taskbar nothing populates that widget window that opens. Anyone know why that is?
