Another serious data mining release. If you thought Windows 10 was intrusive?

PC must have TPM 2.0 support and Secure Boot! to turn on UEFI and turn off all sorts of Legacy.

Secure Boot is an analogue of Trusted Platform Module. The computer equipped with TPM/Secure Boot has a unique identifier sewn into the chip. The ID is known to the software manufacturer and cannot be changed. This jeopardizes one of the natural advantages of the Internet: anonymity. At the moment, if there are no Trojans on the computer, there are no obvious bugs in the software, and the cookie is removed, the only user ID is the IP address and the titles of HTTP. In addition to improving security, the presence of the TPM/Secure Boot module can have a negative effect on freedom of speech, which is especially true for underdeveloped countries. To understand what a remotely readable and immutable computer ID can lead to, it's enough to recall a similar problem with the Pentium III processor identification number.

Something to consider before you decide to upgrade or not.

There are much easier ways to track you. Apple, Google, and all the tech giants already heavily track you. The fact that you are using the internet means that you are already being tracked. If you are an anonymous person who is really concerned with your privacy, you need to make your own operating system. Even Ubuntu will not cut it. Also, you shouldn't use any premade phones like Android or IOS. So, stop scaring those who are less informed about these concepts with your jargon.

This is quite hyperbolic. TPM is basically a crypto processor and as of such is has unique keys, this does not mean however that this translates to an unique ID. It's mainly used for encrypted filesystems and storing other crypto keys, like licenses.

But it's not mandated for those and really, Windows itself already creates an unique hardware ID.

But these have fuck all to do with browsers unless the browsers themselves mandate having unique IDs... and they don't. And if you're trojaned then you're fucked already.

If you're concerned about online privacy then you should do these (in order of importance):

    1. Choice of browser, pick one that respects your freedom in the first place (Firefox, de-googled variants of Chrome, Tor Browser)
    2. Networking tools, VPN and/or Tor, various Shadow Proxies if on offer
    3. Selection of plugins like adblocker (uBlock Origin, uMatrix), other privacy tools (DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, Decentraleyes)
    4. Selection of web services (avoid Google, obvs)
    5. Antimalware software (too many to list, but Windows Defender is a good start)
And if you're really paranoid, then use Tails or somesuch as your operating system.

Pretty much you are a slave to the OS, it owns you rather than you owning it. My only interest in Windows 11 would be further enhancements or gains in audio processing, especially real-time processing. Other than that if they managed to fix issues with USB 3.10 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.10 making many USB3 ports on several motherboards non-functioning, would be great.

Well, good news everybody, IE11 will not come as a default (and neither does Cortana).

A friend installed the new Windows 11 update today. I still have the "2004 version". I am waiting for the "20H2" update. I have the following: Windows Update - An error has occurred. Try opening the settings later. Somebody an idea ... what's going on at Microsoft has the AI that distributes the updates forgotten me?

Not for me either - mine is 6 years old.

I don't need it and I don't want it either. As soon as you have got used to everything new and you find your way around and know where everything is, something new is coming up again. PS: How Windows will probably look in 30 years - it will be changed every 6 years - Windows 17 - with a newer graphic interface and even more apps ... everything should be digitized - let's hope that Windows can do it all ... the look into the crystal ball ...

What's explorer? (looks at Total Commander)

Looks like it doesn't support my CPU or Motherboard (no TPM module support)

    Ah well. ;)

One thing that puzzles me (that I've not found any information about) is the CPU support mentioned by others as well here.

Here's my thinking: it can't be the sheer grunt (they support Atoms and Celerons for chrissake), and it can't be the amount of cores/threads as some supported CPUs only do 2C/2T. I mean I'd understand if they had a lower limit for the core count as they've got the new scheduler, but that seems not to be the case.

The only reason really is then TPM though this is a bit puzzling as a Snapdragon/ARM processor is supported and that doesn't do TPM (though it has a separate crypto processor) or use of a newer ISA (AVX extensions required perhaps?).

The latter would at least possibly lead to performance gains, but of course is bad for people who might want to upgrade but can't because of no support.

    Anybody else have ideas?

These are directly or indirectly related to big games.
Games make money. There's always a new Direct (X, 3D, Storage,...) technology for every new Windows that makes the older obsolete for games.
